Space42 introduces space technology to UAE students
As part of an educational campaign
Space42, an Abu Dhabi-based space tech company, and the UAE Ministry of Education have launched an educational campaign designed to inspire and educate the next generation of scientists, engineers, and space enthusiasts ahead of the Q4 launch of Space42’s next-generation mobility system, the Thuraya 4 satellite.
The initiative invites students from schools across the UAE, operated by the UAE Ministry of Education, to visit Yahsat Space Services’ facilities to gain hands-on experience and insight into satellite technology.
The campaign includes guided tours of the Yahsat Space Services facility in Abu Dhabi, where students will learn about satellite operations, interact with engineers, and participate in workshops, presentations, and Q&A sessions. Some of these sessions will also be accessible virtually, extending the initiative’s reach.
The educational programme runs through November 2024, hosting one school per week. Students from grades 7 to 9 will visit the Yahsat facilities in Abu Dhabi and the Thuraya gateway in Sharjah.
Ali Al Hashemi, CEO of Space42 and Yahsat Space Services, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration: “As we approach the launch of Thuraya 4, we are delighted to work alongside the Ministry of Education to help cultivate young minds and contribute to the UAE’s National Space Strategy 2030.
“Space42 is committed to fostering curiosity, and through this initiative, we hope to provide students with immersive, hands-on learning opportunities that will shape the future of SpaceTech.”
Sulaiman Al Kaabi, Executive Director of the Students’ Wellbeing Sector at the UAE Ministry of Education, stated. “This collaboration not only enriches students’ understanding of space technology but also connects them directly with the UAE’s accomplishments in space exploration. The opportunity to see the work behind the Thuraya 4 satellite will inspire students to pursue careers in STEM fields,” he said.
By bringing real-world STEM applications into the classroom, the campaign aims to offer students a rare glimpse into potential careers in aerospace and technology, motivating them to continue their studies and pursue their passion for science and innovation. The campaign is part of a broader effort to engage students with the UAE’s space achievements and provide them with the tools to shape the future of space exploration and technology in the region.
