Sustainability Handbook for Families launched ahead of World Environment Day
United Arab Emirates, 2 June 2023 – Saving energy feels good. And, to celebrate the Year of Sustainability, Taqeef, the visionary behind desert cooling systems, has developed a 5-step plan to help reduce the impact our home energy use has on the planet.
With these few small steps, we can make big strides towards more conscious cooling, and help protect our planet one degree at a time:
TLC for your AC
To work at their most efficient AC’s need a bit of love. Cleaning the vents and filters every month will improve the air quality and the output (and help keep bills low). And a professional service at least twice a year will make sure your cooling appliance stays with you for the long-term.
The magic number
Set your thermostat to 24 degrees. Studies show this is the optimal temperature for your body’s comfort, so setting this as a default temperature can significantly lower your electricity consumption. For task specific activity (exercise, sleep, working) you can adjust as needed but try not to over-cool. Even a one-degree increase can save you up to six percent on your energy bill.
Buy smart
When purchasing a new AC, be a savvy shopper. Look for models with energy-saving features such as smart or WiFi controls, inverter technology, and high Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) ratings.
Automate it
Invest in a learning thermostat or smart controller. Not only will it adapt to and predict your own cooling habits, it will also allow you to adjust temperatures or turn off ACs while away from the house.
Home & Away
The majority of UAE residents (65%) leave their air conditioning on while they are at work during the summer, and over half (53%) even when they’re travelling. Adopt more responsible habits by setting the timer on your AC or by using wi-fi or cloud-based controllers to cool only when you need to.
