The First Emirates Mobile Infectious Disease Lab Has Been Launched In Abu Dhabi

A first of its kind, the transportable BSL-3 (Biosafety level 3) Laboratory was unveiled by the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC). The BSL-3 will be accessible across four different locations in Abu Dhabi. These locations are the Al Rahba Hospital, Tawam Hospital, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), and Madinat Zayed Hospital.

The Mobile Infectious Disease Lab:

The BSL-3 mobile laboratory will make the UAE capital better prepared for infectious diseases by making it possible to test for them quickly and without risk. The lab is set up to deal with highly contagious diseases like Yellow fever, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, etc.

The manufacturer has ensured that all laboratory technicians who work in the lab and deal with high-threat pathogens are safe by giving them a lot of training and on-site safety training. The SKMC Biosafety and Quality team will also make sure that quality and biosafety go well.

Matar Saeed Al Nuaimi, who is the Director-General of ADPHC, has said that putting the mobile laboratory on the level of the Emirate will make the capital of the Emirates better prepared to respond to, investigate, and control infectious diseases. These things will help the Center reach its goal of making the community healthier and safer. He said that since it started in 2019, ADPHC has been good for Abu Dhabi’s public health and has made strategic partnerships to ensure the well-being of all Abu Dhabi residents is guaranteed.

Dr. Farida Al Hosani, the Executive Director of Infectious Diseases and Official Spokesperson for the Health Sector of the UAE, said that the newly opened mobile laboratory would offer fast and free testing to find people who have been exposed to viral diseases and pathogens. In the event that a public health emergency arises, Abu Dhabi has the resources and manpower to deal with it.

Saeed Jaber Al Kuwaiti, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), said that it is their job as healthcare executives to make sure the public is safe during an outbreak of an infectious disease. By making a BSL-3 lab that can be moved, ADPHC has made a huge step toward making the United Arab Emirates more prepared for infectious diseases. He also said that having the mobile BSL-3 lab at Tawam, SKMC, and Al Rahba Hospital was a great honor. They will keep doing everything they can, along with the government and ADPHC, to keep dangerous infectious diseases from spreading to the local people.

The officials said that the Reference Laboratory for Infectious Diseases, Abu Dhabi (RLID-AD), a surveillance laboratory, will deploy the mobile laboratory when infectious disease outbreaks occur in the Emirate to help with screening and diagnosis. The BSL-3 mobile laboratory was built according to the best standards in the world for how it should operate.

Takeaways

Undoubtedly, the Abu Dhabi Center for Public Health’s introduction of a mobile laboratory is a significant step toward increasing the UAE’s preparedness to combat infectious diseases.
