2023 ABU DHABI SPARTAN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ARRIVES IN THE UAE CAPITAL

This year’s Abu Dhabi Spartan World Championship, hosted by Abu Dhabi Sports Council, will take place in the UAE’s capital next week as thousands of athletes prepare to compete in the world’s leading endurance challenge over the course of a gruelling and intense three-day period.

Al Wathba plays host to the event, which runs from 8th-10th December, for the second consecutive year and there are various race options available, including the Open Heats, which provide an opportunity for all regardless of ability, to take on the Spartan challenge.

The event includes three packed days of high-level race action in which participants will push their bodies to the limit in a true test of strength, endurance and speed, while Friday and Saturday nights feature the Sheikh Zayed Festival, a huge celebration of Emirati culture for which ticket holders will receive free entry.

HE Suhail Abdulla AlAreefi, Executive Director of Events Sector, Abu Dhabi Sports Council added: “With last year’s event such a huge success, we anticipate another thrilling three days of sporting action and entertainment this time around.

“With so many race options, there is something for everybody, while the Sheikh Zayed Festival will allow guests to experience a true Emirati celebration long into the night.

“This is the third occasion on which Abu Dhabi has hosted the Spartan World Championship, which reinforces our commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle and positioning the UAE as a global leader in the hosting of largescale events.”

Cherie Bortnick, Vice President, Business Development, Spartan, said: “Excitement is really starting to build as the 2023 Abu Dhabi Spartan World Championship edges closer, and with just over a week to go until the start of the event, there is only a short period of time in which to secure your spot at the pinnacle OCR (obstacle course racing) event of the season.

“This fantastic event is open to participants of all fitness levels, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming competitors to Al Wathba once again as we bring the curtain down on our 2023 event offerings.”

Friday 8th December, this year’s opening day, features the 3K Races, along with the inaugural 5k Night Race, while a packed schedule on Saturday 9th December includes the Elite 21K World Championship, Age Group 21K World Championship, Open Beast (21km; 30 obstacles) and Kids Competitive & Open (½ Mile – 2 Mile; 5-20 obstacles) challenges. 

The event concludes on Sunday December 10th with another big day of race action, featuring the Elite 3K Team Relay World Championship, Open Super (10km; 25 obstacles), Open Sprint (5km; 20 obstacles) and Kids Open (½ Mile – 2 Mile; 5-20 obstacles).
