3 FIBA events to be held in Singapore

From 2026 to 2027
FIBA and Sport Singapore (SportSG) have announced an extension of their partnership to host three major 3×3 basketball events in Singapore between 2026 and 2027.
The new partnership is set to elevate the profile of 3×3 basketball within the local sports community and beyond. The announcement was made during the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2025 opening ceremony, where FIBA 3×3 Managing Director, Alex Sanchez, presented a commemorative token to Kon Yin Tong, Chairman of SportSG.
The upcoming events include the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup in April 2026, the FIBA 3×3 World Cup Qualifier in April 2026, and the highly anticipated FIBA 3×3 World Cup in June 2027. These events are expected to draw significant international attention and further promote Singapore as a hub for 3×3 basketball.
The FIBA 3×3 World Cup Qualifier 2026, set to take place shortly after the 2026 Asia Cup, will see over 24 teams competing to qualify for the 2026 FIBA 3×3 World Cup. Held at the Singapore Sports Hub, the qualifier will feature intense competition as teams battle for a spot in one of the sport’s most prestigious tournaments.
Following this, the FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2027 will welcome 40 teams worldwide for a week-long event. Details about the exact venue for the 2027 World Cup will be shared in due course.
FIBA 3×3 Managing Director Alex Sanchez expressed his enthusiasm about the extended partnership: “We are excited to continue our collaboration with Singapore, a country that shares our passion for 3×3 basketball and world-class events.
“The Singapore Sports Hub is a renowned venue providing the perfect backdrop for the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup and World Cup Qualifiers in 2026. We are confident Singapore will exceed all expectations as we approach the final World Cup before the LA28 Olympics.”
SportSG’s CEO, Alan Goh, commented on the growing partnership: “Since 2022, the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup has become a marquee event, attracting thousands of spectators from our schools and passionate basketball community.
“Extending this partnership through 2026 and 2027 further demonstrates basketball’s popularity in Singapore. These events, alongside our grassroots initiatives, will benefit our TeamSG basketball players and ensure basketball remains accessible to all in Singapore.”
The partnership is a key part of SportSG’s ongoing efforts to boost Singapore’s status as a regional basketball hub. With over 1,100 basketball courts across the island, the nation has ample opportunities for communities to unite, play, and nurture the sport’s growth. Singapore’s thriving basketball ecosystem is a testament to the commitment to both local development and international competition.
This collaboration also highlights Singapore’s ability to host premier sports events. In addition to the upcoming FIBA events, the Singapore Sports Hub will host the 35th FIBA Intercontinental Cup from September 18 to 21, 2025.
This event will feature six clubs worldwide, including the Basketball Champions League (BCL) champions in Europe, BCL Americas, BCL Asia, and the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
SportSG’s initiatives aim to engage players of all ages, ensuring basketball in Singapore remains vibrant, competitive, and accessible at all levels. These efforts reflect the broader goal of elevating the basketball profile and cultivating a robust talent pool for the future.
