Sultan AlNeyadi, an astronaut from the UAE, will be the first Arab to go on a long-term space mission. UAE Mission 2
The UAE Has named this particular space mission UAE Mission 2. This is the second mission in which the UAE has sent an astronaut into space, hence the name. In 2019, Hazzaa Al Mansoori, the first Emirati astronaut, completed a historic eight-day journey to the ISS.
The 41-year-old Al Neyadi will travel on NASA’s SpaceX Crew-6 mission with hopes of furthering his country’s space program. Formerly, he served the UAE Armed Forces as a Network Security Engineer. Also, he has published 6 scholarly articles and holds a doctorate in information technology (data leakage prevention).
Al Neyadi is a mission specialist and member of the SpaceX Crew-6’s lead crew. Once aboard the International Space Station, he will serve as the flight engineer. During his six-month stay in the orbiting laboratory, he will conduct nearly twenty experiments.
AlNeyadi and his crewmates, NASA mission commander Stephen Bowen, NASA pilot Warren Hoburg, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev will study how microgravity and other impacts of space affect many parts of people’s lives. Their experiments will help us learn more about health and medicine, biotechnology, making vaccines, chemical and physical processes, observing the Earth, keeping an eye on climate change, and more.
After this mission, the United Arab Emirates will be the 11th country worldwide to accomplish a long-duration mission on the ISS. It’ll also be the first Arab nation to reach this benchmark. The United Arab Emirates is also the first nation that is not an ISS partner to take part in a permanent ISS mission.
What is ISS?
The ISS launched on November 20, 1998. From end to end, it is 357 feet long and weighs almost 1 million pounds.
