Sharjah Airport makes young travellers happy with 2023 Back-to-School campaign

Sharjah International Airport has officially concluded its 2023 summer events programme by formally welcoming returning UAE-based students and their families at the airport.

As part of its 2023 Back-to-School passenger-focussed initiative, Sharjah Airport Authority – the airport operator – it was sought to elevate the travel experience for young students and their families by offering them gifts and hosting entertainment activities in the airport’s arrivals terminal.

The airport’s 2023 Back-to-School campaign concludes on August 26, 2023.

The campaign aligns with Sharjah Airport Authority’s goal of meeting travellers’ expectations for a pleasant and seamless journey.

The UAE has an overall student population of approximately 1.1 million, comprising Emiratis and various nationalities.

21 scheduled airlines

Sharjah International Airport is the third-largest airport in the UAE, with 21 scheduled airlines flying from the airport to 89 destinations around the globe.

Air Arabia is the largest airline that operates out of the airport, based on the number of its departures.

With around 653 scheduled weekly take-offs, Air Arabia’s flight operations are about eight times as many as the airport’s second-largest carrier, Air India Express

The most frequently departed route from Sharjah International Airport is the route to Doha in Qatar, with an average of 48 flights from the airport every week, representing about 6% of all weekly departures.

One of the seven emirates that constitute the UAE, Sharjah, made aviation history in 1932 when the first flight to the emirate landed at the then-Al Mahatta runway in present-day Sharjah City.

Since then, Sharjah International Airport has transformed into a modern airport, providing world-class services to airlines and other clients through commercial initiatives.

The airport has an open-skies policy, which allows air carriers worldwide access to the airport.

The airport inaugurated its latest runway in 2014, making it one of the longest in the Middle East, at 4,060 metres and equipped with Cat II capabilities.
