Nokia and e& UAE showcase end-to-end network slicing tech
Solution for gaming applications
Nokia has revealed that e& UAE is the first telco in the world to implement its slicing solution to establish a dedicated end-to-end network slice tailored to meet modern gaming applications’ high-speed, low-latency demands.
The demonstration, which took place at e& UAE’s Abu Dhabi labs, was part of an advanced trial to showcase how network slicing can enhance user experiences.
Nokia’s network slicing solution enables e& UAE to optimise the delivery of premium services such as gaming, work-from-home setups, and enterprise applications.
Nokia’s intent-based slicing technology allows operators to allocate resources across the in-home, access, and transport networks. This ensures that gaming applications’ high-performance demands, which require low latency and high bandwidth, are consistently met.
During the trial, Nokia’s slicing solution created network slices across various domains, including in-home Wi-Fi and fibre access networks, guaranteeing users an end-to-end quality experience.
The solution includes Altiplano, Corteca, and NSP domain controllers, empowering operators to create network slices autonomously on demand. These slices can be customised to meet specific service requirements, such as routing, bit rate, Quality of Service (QoS), latency, and security, making them ideal for gaming and TV streaming applications.
One of the key features of Nokia’s solution is its ability to automatically detect new gaming devices, such as consoles, as they connect to the network. Upon detection, e& UAE was able to create, on demand, a dedicated low-latency, high-speed network slice that ensured an optimal gaming experience. This ability to tailor network characteristics instantly highlights how operators can leverage slicing technology to optimise customer satisfaction.
This breakthrough solution allows operators to enhance network monetisation by offering dedicated slices that support premium services customised for individual customer needs. By doing so, operators can increase customer retention and create new revenue streams from services like gaming, which require high levels of performance and reliability.
Abdul Rahman Al Humaidan, Vice President of Fixed Access Network at e& UAE, commented: “We aim to incorporate cutting-edge technological advancements into our network. Nokia’s slicing solution enables us to manage our customers’ experience effortlessly by designing tailored network slices for specific services and application requirements.
“This approach ensures the delivery of an exceptional digital experience while effectively addressing diverse service needs and enhancing return on investment.”
Mohamed Salama, Head of Fixed Networks for the Middle East and Africa at Nokia, added, “This trial sets a new benchmark in the industry and lays the foundation for future autonomous networks that can deliver premium services to customers in a whole new way.
“Our slicing solution is uniquely positioned to help operators like e& UAE maximise network investments, optimise resources, and create new services for applications like gaming that have the power to enhance customer experiences and increase customer retention.”
The successful trial sets the stage for future developments in autonomous networks. It marks a significant milestone in the evolution of network-slicing technology and its ability to cater to the growing demand for high-quality, personalised digital services.
