On World Hearing Day 2026, Starkey Middle East and Africa is reinforcing the importance of early diagnosis and timely intervention in children with hearing loss, while highlighting how advanced hearing technology can support better outcomes at school, at home, and in everyday life. This year’s World Hearing Day theme, led by the World Health Organization, is “From communities to classrooms: hearing care for all children,” with a strong focus on preventing avoidable childhood hearing loss and ensuring early identification and care for children with ear or hearing problems.
Giscard Bechara, Director, Starkey Middle East and Africa, said, “World Hearing Day is an important reminder that early diagnosis can change the course of a child’s life. When hearing challenges are identified early, children are better supported in communication, learning, confidence, and social development. At Starkey, we are committed to advancing hearing care through innovation and awareness. We are aiming to make hearing support more intelligent, more personalised, and more empowering for children and families.”
As part of this year’s awareness efforts, Starkey MEA is sharing the story of Larin, a 13-year-old hearing aid user based in UAE whose life has been positively transformed through early diagnosis and support. “Getting my hearing diagnosed early made a big difference in my life. It helped me get support at the right time and enjoy school, friends, and everyday moments much better. With the right hearing aid, I can hear more clearly and feel more confident. It has truly changed my life. I want other children and parents to know that early diagnosis can make life so much better,” said Larin.
Untreated hearing loss in children can affect language development, classroom participation, and overall wellbeing. By encouraging parents, schools, and healthcare professionals to prioritize screening and early action, Starkey MEA aims to support a broader shift toward proactive hearing care and reduced stigma around hearing solutions.
Starkey also continues to advocate for a modern understanding of hearing aids as advanced, discreet, and high-performance devices that do far more than amplify sound.
Today’s hearing technologies are designed to help users navigate real-world listening environments with greater clarity and confidence, while offering digital connectivity and personalized controls through companion applications.
“On World Hearing Day, we encourage families to seek professional hearing evaluations when they notice signs of hearing difficulty in children, and to act early so no child is left behind,” concluded Giscard.
