Dubai — Authorities across the UAE have issued weather and traffic alerts as a low-pressure system brings unstable conditions, including scattered rainfall and dusty winds, expected to continue until Monday.
According to the National Centre of Meteorology, the country is experiencing the impact of a surface low-pressure extension combined with a weak upper-air system. This has led to the formation of convective clouds, resulting in partly cloudy to cloudy skies and intermittent rain across several regions. Winds are forecast to be light to moderate but may strengthen at times, raising dust and reducing visibility, particularly in open areas.
In response, Abu Dhabi Police have implemented variable speed limits on key highways. Motorists are advised to follow updated speed limits displayed on electronic signage, which are adjusted during adverse weather to minimise the risk of accidents caused by poor visibility or slippery roads.
A spokesperson from Abu Dhabi Civil Defence urged residents to remain cautious, especially during rainfall. Authorities warned against approaching flood-prone zones, including valleys and dams, where water accumulation can pose serious risks.
Extended Forecast
Weather conditions are expected to remain unsettled through the weekend. Friday and Saturday will likely see continued rainfall with increasing winds that could stir up dust and further impact visibility.
By Sunday, cloud cover is expected to persist, with occasional rainfall and stronger winds at times.
On Monday, skies will remain partly cloudy, with a chance of light rain in eastern and southern areas, while dusty winds may intensify during the afternoon.
Traffic Fines and Safety Rules
Authorities have also reminded motorists of strict penalties for unsafe behaviour during adverse weather. The following violations may result in significant fines:
- Entering flooded valleys or waterlogged areas
- Gathering near dams or flood zones
- Obstructing emergency response teams
- Using mobile phones while driving to record weather conditions
- Improper use of hazard lights
- Ignoring temporary speed limits displayed on electronic boards
- Changing lanes without signalling in low-visibility conditions
Residents are advised to stay updated with official forecasts and follow safety guidelines to avoid risks during the unstable weather period.
