Dubai, UAE – July 2026 – The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority is continuing efforts to implement and develop street lighting projects across all areas and residential communities in the Central Region.

According to the Emirates News Agency, this comes following a defined plan and timeline as part of the vision and directives of Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to develop infrastructure across all areas of the emirate and provide the best possible services to citizens and residents.

During the first half of this year, SEWA installed 965 new lighting poles and 1,305 light fixtures, laid 41,150 kilometers of cables, and replaced 679 light fixtures, at a cost of approximately AED 5,400 million, across various sites, residential areas, and towns in the Central Region.

Director of the Central Region Department, Khalifa Mohammed Al Tunaiji, explained that the lighting projects carried out by the Authority in the Central Region during the first half of the year included 16 projects, ranging from the installation of new poles to the replacement of lighting fixtures across various areas and sites.

He noted that these projects form part of the SEWA’s strategic plan aimed at enhancing road safety standards, providing a sustainable and well-lit environment in line with the highest standards, while focusing on operational efficiency and rationalizing energy consumption.

He pointed out that the completed projects included several key initiatives across the Central Region. These featured lighting for the Al Dhaid University housing street, in its second phase, as well as lighting for the internal roads of Al Dhaid commercial area and Al Yadiyah residential area.

Work also covered the second phase of the camel racetrack and lighting for the internal roads of Al Thaqeeba residential area. In addition, fixtures were replaced along the schools road in Madam, and in the Al Faya and Al Bruair residential areas.

Further projects included lighting for the car parks of Al Nasr Mosque and the second phase of Al Huwaiya residential area, along with the road leading to Suhaila Educational Complex and the road leading to Fili Fort. Fixtures were also replaced in Al Huwaiya and Al Rafeea 2 residential areas.

Finally, the projects extended to lighting the internal roads of Al Dhaid commercial area, in its second phase, and Al Sidra residential area.

Al Tunaiji affirmed that developing lighting networks in the Central Region remains a fundamental pillar of the Authority’s development plans, using advanced technical specifications to ensure operational continuity and efficiency at the lowest possible maintenance costs, in line with environmental sustainability standards for the Emirate of Sharjah.

He added that the Authority will continue implementing its development plans in the Central Region, in ongoing coordination with municipalities, municipal councils, and various relevant entities, to identify and meet residents’ needs, ensuring an improved quality of life and high standards of service delivery.
