Abu Dhabi Air Expo 2024 offers glimpse into future of air mobility
Imen Sfaxi, a national hero known for her bravery during an Abu Dhabi residential fire in 2022, addressed the critical issue of driving inclusion in the aviation industry during the ongoing Abu Dhabi Air Expo 2024, held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from November 19 to 21. As part of her talk titled ‘From Wheelchair to Air,’ Ms Sfaxi shared insights on her ambitious project, which aims to empower women and people with limited mobility through advancements in air mobility technologies.
Imen Sfaxi said: “My journey has shown me that resilience can defy the odds. As I pursue my dream of becoming the first woman pilot of a drone with reduced mobility, I am dedicated to raising awareness in the aviation ecosystem about people of determination’s needs. At the Air Expo, I aim to inspire others to break barriers and embrace the sky, demonstrating that with resilience and perseverance, we can transform the impossible into the possible. Together, we can pave the way for greater accessibility in aviation, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to soar.”
The latest edition of Abu Dhabi Air Expo is serving as a major forum for promoting inclusivity and innovation in the aerospace industry. With its selection of cutting-edge electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and eco-friendly aviation technologies, the Expo is offering a glimpse into the future of air mobility. This year’s event is also emphasising gender diversity, with active participation from the ‘Middle East chapter of Women in Aviation.’
Ms. Shubhra Bhardwaj, one of the promoters of the Abu Dhabi Air Expo, highlighted the importance of the initiative, saying, “The aviation industry is evolving, and new advancements like eVTOLs present the sector with a wide range of opportunities to reconsider accessibility and inclusivity. Witnessing Imen Sfaxi share her story at the event is a proud moment for the industry, demonstrating the transformational power of technology and bravery. Women like her are not just participants, but trailblazers in the new era of aviation, paving the way for continued growth and progress and we are proud to be the platform that highlights her journey.”
In addition to learning about new technologies and exploring topics like Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) and urban air taxis, attendees are interacting with industry leaders and capitalising on valuable networking opportunities. With inspiring figures like Imen Sfaxi leading the discussion, the event is featuring a vibrant blend of interactive sessions, panel discussions, and exhibitions in an effort to influence the future of aviation.
