Health leaders in Abu Dhabi have highlighted the critical role nurses play in strengthening the healthcare sector, describing them as a driving force behind healthcare sustainability, patient wellbeing, and the adoption of advanced medical technologies.
Marking International Nurses Day under the theme “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowering Nurses Saves Lives,” senior officials said nurses continue to serve as a vital pillar of the healthcare system, particularly as the sector evolves through artificial intelligence, digital care, and data-driven healthcare solutions.
Dr. Noura Al Ghaithi, Under-Secretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, said nurses represent the “beating heart” of the healthcare system and provide the closest human connection to patients during vulnerable moments.
She noted that behind every successful treatment journey is a nurse delivering care through compassion, expertise, patience, and resilience.
Al Ghaithi said the nursing profession has undergone a major transformation in recent years, becoming central to the future of healthcare through its growing involvement in artificial intelligence technologies, digital care systems, health data management, and future-focused treatment models.
She added that nurses now play an increasingly influential role in improving healthcare quality, accelerating patient recovery, and enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of healthcare services.
According to Al Ghaithi, nurses also serve as a crucial bridge between technology and human care, connecting medical knowledge with the patient’s lived experience. She stressed that investing in nursing professionals has become a strategic priority for the future development of healthcare systems.
Meanwhile, Yousef Altheeb Alketbi, Chief Executive Officer of the National Rehabilitation Centre, praised nursing teams for their dedication in supporting patients throughout addiction treatment and recovery programmes.
He said the centre continues to prioritise the professional development of nursing staff, reflecting its commitment to investing in human capital and delivering integrated, high-quality healthcare services.
Sameh Abu Arqoub, Director of Nursing at SEHA Clinics, said nursing teams remain committed to implementing evidence-based practices in infection control, wound care, and fall prevention in line with international standards, including those set by the Joint Commission International.
