New projects should be launched time to time, as they enhance security, rehabilitation and rights’ access under judicial reforms.
A couple of advanced technology projects have been approved to be launched, driven by AI, by the Correctional and Rehabilitation Committee at Abu Dhabi Judicial Department. These projects are driven by smart security systems for the management of the Rehabilitation Centre, for behavioral detection and for rapid response systems. Another project approved to be launched by the Correctional and Rehabilitation Committee is the Inmate Requests Management System (RMS), which will be connected to the courts.
This initiative is part of the strategic decision of the Committee of moving towards AI transformation and process automation. This decision is in line with the Committee’s policy of employing advanced technologies and AI driven projects to support Justice and the Rule of Law.
These AI driven and automation-focused projects are approved to be launched as part of the implementation of the directives issued by His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Presidential Court, and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, as stated by the Counsellor Yousef Saeed Al Abri, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.
These injunctions are a direct reflection of the Government’s agenda, which is to build a safe and sustainable society through an efficient judicial system and effective and high quality services, which are aimed at reinstating and reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s competitive position. These directives are focused on achieving continuous innovation and improvement within the judicial and Correctional and Rehabilitation System.
Counsellor Yousef Saeed Al Abri also stated that the projects are a core part of the strategy of laying a foundation where moderns tools and techniques will accomplish all tasks with minimal human intervention and interaction, while at the same time ensuring high safety levels within the Correctional and Rehabilitation Centres. The major focus is on projects like behavioral prediction systems and smart judicial request management systems.
The benefits of new technologies are diverse. These new technologies allow accurate monitoring of various activities, provide effective and instant responses to emergencies, along with allowing inmates the facility to access their legal rights through a technical system that allows direct and effective linkage to the judicial system.
Highest international standards are ensured to be incorporated in the projects. During its meeting for reviewing development projects for 2026, the Committee put forth an idea of a project which will focus on improving pretrial detention. This is in accordance with the highest international standards.
The primary focus of the project is on improving infrastructure and service facilities to pave way for a detention environment that adheres to human rights and legal requirements. This is in accordance with the Committee’s decision to enhance and modernize the facilities as well as to transform them into leading models that are not only an epitome of operational efficiency but stick to humanitarian standards too, as enforced by the UAE.
Rehabilitation programs have been the core focus of the Committee. The Committee has approved specialized workshop projects in various fields. These fields include manufacturing and agriculture. These projects or programs aim to facilitate inmates to improve their technical and professional skills that will help them survive in the labor market after completing their sentences. These programs and projects are a relief and assistance for those who lack the advanced technical and professional skills needed to survive in the labor market. Technology has advanced and therefore, inmates should acquire technical and professional skills in accordance with the current technological advancements.
