Abu Dhabi Police warn residents against fake online advertisements

Abu Dhabi Police have issued a fresh warning urging residents to stay alert against fake online advertisements designed to trick users into clicking fraudulent links and surrendering personal or financial information.

The authority said scammers often create convincing advertisements that redirect users to fake websites posing as legitimate businesses. These sites typically promote products or services at unusually low prices to lure victims, allowing criminals to steal sensitive data such as bank details, passwords, or even personal identity information.

Abu Dhabi Police stressed that online fraud remains one of the most common cybercrimes, with many scams aimed at gaining access to victims’ bank accounts or misusing their identities. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant while browsing, shopping, or making payments online.

The police said they continue to raise public awareness by explaining how these scams work, how to spot warning signs, and what steps to take to protect oneself and report suspicious activity.

How to protect yourself from online scams

Abu Dhabi Police outlined several precautionary measures residents should follow to reduce the risk of falling victim to online fraud:

  • Verify the authenticity of electronic links before clicking
  • Never enter credit card details or passwords on unknown websites
  • Use only trusted and secure platforms for online payments
  • Download apps only from government-approved sources or well-known app stores
  • Do not share confidential information such as bank details, ATM PINs, online banking passwords, or card security codes (CVV)

How to report fraud

Residents are encouraged to report any suspected fraud through Aman, Abu Dhabi Police’s official e-reporting service, using the following channels:

  • Call the hotline at 8002626
  • Send a text message to 2828
  • Report through the Abu Dhabi Police smart app
  • Email [email protected]

Abu Dhabi Police reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cybersecurity awareness and combating online crime, stressing that community cooperation plays a key role in keeping residents safe in the digital space.
