Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police have urged motorists to take extra precautions during rainy and unstable weather, warning drivers not to enter valleys or watercourses when they are flooded or flowing, regardless of how safe the situation may appear.
The warning forms part of nationwide efforts to curb road accidents during adverse weather, when poor visibility, slippery roads and sudden water build-up can sharply increase the risk of serious incidents.
Police stressed that entering flooded valleys is a serious traffic violation. Offenders face a Dh2,000 fine, 23 traffic points and vehicle impoundment for up to 60 days.
In an official statement, Abu Dhabi Police advised motorists to check weather forecasts before travelling, avoid areas prone to water accumulation or runoff, and strictly follow instructions issued by the relevant authorities to protect lives and property.
Drivers were also reminded to reduce speed, keep safe distances between vehicles and remain fully focused on the road. Authorities highlighted the dangers of using mobile phones while driving, including filming flooded areas, and warned against any distractions that could compromise safety.
Motorists were urged to comply with posted speed limits and follow directions displayed on roadside signs and electronic message boards, especially during challenging weather conditions.
