Burj Khalifa’s façade gets new lighting system

Debut on December 1, 2024

Emaar Properties has unveiled an upgraded façade lighting system for the Burj Khalifa, which is currently the world’s tallest building. The spectacular lighting system will officially debut on December 1, 2024, at the start of the UAE’s Eid Al Etihad celebrations.

The project also sets the stage for the landmark tower’s 15th anniversary on January 4, 2025.

The cutting-edge upgrade features dynamic RGBW lighting technology that replaces the building’s former static illumination with an innovative, colour-changing system. The new lighting configuration creates intricate and mesmerising effects and can adapt to various occasions and celebrations. It promises to transform Burj Khalifa’s exterior into a dynamic visual spectacle.

Installing the advanced lighting system involved meticulous planning and six months of testing, ensuring the technology was integrated with the tower’s architectural design.

The RGBW fixtures, which are addressable and capable of producing an expansive range of colours, allow for vibrant, fluid lighting displays—from festive sequences to everyday illuminations. The lighting will also work harmoniously with Burj Khalifa’s existing media screen, adding a new dimension to its celebrated façade.

Ahmad Al Matrooshi, Executive Director of Emaar Properties, said: “Burj Khalifa has always stood as a beacon of what is possible when vision meets innovation. This lighting overhaul is a testament to our pursuit of excellence.

“As we unveil this stunning upgrade during Eid Al Etihad celebrations and approach the tower’s 15th anniversary, this transformation marks a new chapter in its legacy, reaffirming Dubai as a city of boundless ambition.”

The upgraded lighting system enhances Burj Khalifa’s visual presence and strengthens its position as a global symbol of architectural brilliance. Combining cutting-edge technology with artistic design is a new benchmark for lighting in architecture, blending functionality with beauty.

With the world’s tallest building now illuminated by this vibrant new system, Burj Khalifa’s façade is poised to dazzle audiences in the years to come and continue to captivate visitors and residents alike. As Dubai celebrates this extraordinary achievement, the lighting overhaul represents a technological leap and a continued commitment to the city’s innovation and creative excellence vision.
