Cathay Cargo expands its digital integration programme

Carrier enhances its freight booking experience

Cathay Cargo, a global leader in cargo services, has taken a significant step in its digitalisation journey by unveiling a groundbreaking Application Programming Interface (API) connection for DB Schenker’s agents.

This API provides seamless access to Cathay Cargo’s Click & Ship booking platform, allowing DB Schenker to efficiently check space availability, make bookings, and receive instant confirmations through their in-house system.

This development is part of Cathay Cargo’s broader digitalisation programme, aimed at elevating the customer experience across every touchpoint and expanding service options for its clientele.

Seamless access

With this latest API integration, Kuehne+Nagel, DHL Global Forwarding, DSV, and DB Schenker can now access Click & Ship seamlessly through their respective systems.

Tom Owen, Director of Cargo at Cathay Cargo, expressed the company’s commitment to leveraging digital technologies to enhance business efficiency.

He highlighted that the API links are designed to elevate the freight booking experience, providing customers with 24/7 access to Cathay Cargo’s inventory through their platforms.

Owen highlighted the company’s satisfaction in deepening its partnership with DB Schenker through this innovative API link.

Asok Kumar, Executive Vice President of Global Air Freight at DB Schenker, praised the direct API connectivity with Cathay Cargo’s Transport Management System.

Kumar noted the critical role of quick access to spot pricing from air carrier partners, enabling DB Schenker to respond promptly to customer demands for competitive rates.

The seamless API connectivity supports operations and procurement teams globally, fostering a stronger relationship and cooperation between DB Schenker and Cathay Cargo.

New customer-centricity feature

Cathay Cargo has also launched a new portal to enhance customer-centricity further and simplify the connection process so freight forwarders can access the Click & Ship booking platform.

This portal enables developer teams to familiarise themselves with Cathay Cargo’s API connections, conduct testing, and understand technical requirements before proceeding with actual development work.

These innovative initiatives were powered by Cathay Cargo’s innovation partner, Global Logistics System (HK) Company Limited (GLS).

GLS played a pivotal role in designing Cathay Cargo’s Click & Ship booking platform and continues to support the carrier in various industry-leading digitalisation projects across commercial and operational settings.

Owen concluded by expressing delight in introducing the developer portal, emphasising its role in streamlining the digital transition for forwarders.

He highlighted that API integration is ongoing with various customers, reinforcing Cathay Cargo’s commitment to staying at the forefront of the industry with continuous digital enhancements and services in the pipeline to meet evolving customer needs throughout the year.
