The Flames of Covid-19 Continue to Burn as Saudi Arabia Records New Cases of the Virus

The spread of Covid-19 in Saudi Arabia continues rapidly as the country continues to record new cases of the virus daily. While it is commendable that Saudi Arabia has been able to quell the backlash of the virus and the number of victims, there is still concern among persons about the increasing spread of the virus.

What are the Details of the Pandemic Spread

Saudi Arabia continues to record new cases of the Covid-19 virus as the virus cases rapidly approach the 150-mark. This update comes less than three months after the country eliminated all preventive measures that were put in place to curb the dissemination of the virus.

Since the virus outbreak in 2020, the total number of confirmed infections is now over 800,000, with the deaths standing at 9,295. The Saudi Arabia government has promised to do all it can to stop the spread of Covid-19 and mitigate its effects. However, the country has stated that while a rapid number of persons continue to recover, about 45 are still in critical condition. Likewise, cities like Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Makkah, and Madinah continue to record new virus cases.

The WHO has recognized Saudi Arabia’s previous efforts to curb Covid-19 as the organization commended Saudi Arabia’s hand hygiene program as one of the most successful in the world. There is no doubt that if any country could quell the new spread of the virus, it would be Saudi Arabia.

How has Saudi Arabia attempted to Stop the Spread

The country has also recorded about 800,618 recovery cases, which are commendable given the statistics of persons infected with the virus. In addition, the government has taken its covid 19 campaign quite seriously and distributed the 68 million covid-19 vaccines, with more than 25 million persons fully vaccinated in the country. There are also about 587 vaccine centers nationwide to aid the vaccination process. Therefore, the government does not foresee the effect of the virus as widespread as it was in 2020 when the pandemic began, mainly because there are vaccination measures in place.

Nevertheless, if the virus gets out of hand, it will surely bring about several unwanted effects. For one, it is apparent that this would quell the country’s efforts to return to pre-Covid 19. In the worst-case scenario, it may have to reinstate lockdown measures throughout the country. Moreover, the spread of the pandemic any more than it is currently may also stifle Saudi Arabia’s economic growth. This is especially as the government has recorded specific milestones this year, with giants like the Saudi Aramco company at the fore.

Conclusion

Saudi Arabia’s edge over widespread Covid 19 infections in 2020 was the implementation of intentional strategies like encouraging digital health platforms, social distancing, gathering suspensions, and curfews. However, all these were effective because of the country’s timely implementation. That said, Saudi Arabia may have to look into bringing back these strategies, howbeit mildly, to curb the virus sooner than later and mitigate its dire effects.
