Dubai International Chamber Backs Metito Utilities’ Expansion into Mozambique

Dubai International Chamber has facilitated the expansion of Dubai-based Metito Utilities into Mozambique, supporting the company’s efforts to strengthen its presence in Africa’s water infrastructure sector.

Metito Utilities, an investor, developer and operator of sustainable water and wastewater infrastructure, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mozambique’s Water and Sanitation Investment and Assets Fund (FIPAAS), alongside local infrastructure developer VBC Corporation.

The agreement was facilitated through Dubai International Chamber’s representative office in Mozambique, which coordinated discussions among the participating organisations to explore new infrastructure investment opportunities.

Under the MoU, the three parties will collaborate to evaluate, structure, finance and develop two proposed drinking water supply concession projects in Mozambique’s Niassa and Nampula provinces.

The projects include the Lake Niassa Water Supply Project and the Lúrio River/Nampula Long-Term Water Supply Project, both aimed at supporting the development of water supply infrastructure in the country.

Salem AlShamsi, Executive Vice President of International Relations at Dubai Chambers, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to helping Dubai-based businesses access international markets and establish partnerships that support long-term growth.

He highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for local companies to expand globally while reinforcing Dubai’s position as an international centre for trade and investment.

AlShamsi also emphasised that Dubai Chambers remains focused on providing businesses with the resources and connections needed to establish a stronger presence in priority markets.

Commenting on the agreement, Walid Madwar, Chief Commercial Officer at Metito Utilities, highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in developing large-scale water infrastructure.

He explained that such partnerships enable governments to maintain ownership and regulatory oversight while benefiting from private-sector financing, technical capabilities and operational expertise.

The agreement represents another step in Metito Utilities’ African expansion strategy and highlights the growing role of Dubai-based companies in supporting infrastructure development across international markets.

The initiative also reflects Dubai International Chamber’s efforts to strengthen economic connections between Dubai and African economies while encouraging cross-border investment in essential infrastructure.
