Dubai has unveiled a new Beach Library at Jumeirah Beach 2, offering residents and visitors a unique opportunity to enjoy reading by the sea while spending time at one of the city’s most popular coastal destinations.

The initiative was announced by Dubai Municipality through its official social media channels, inviting beachgoers to explore a free collection of books and relax with a read while enjoying the beach environment.

In its announcement, the municipality encouraged visitors to take part in the experience:
“Are you at Jumeirah Beach 2? Pick your favourite book from the beach library provided by Dubai Municipality and enjoy a relaxing read by the sea alongside exciting beach activities,” the post said.
It also invited readers to share their favourite finds online, using the hashtag #UAEReads, part of the nationwide celebration of reading.

Supporting the UAE Month of Reading

The launch aligns with the UAE Month of Reading, held annually in March. The initiative was introduced in 2016 following the UAE Cabinet’s Year of Reading, which aims to build a sustainable culture of knowledge, learning, and literacy across society.

A short video shared alongside the announcement showed a young visitor browsing through books at the beach library, highlighting the initiative’s appeal to readers of all ages.

Free Access to Books by the Sea

The Jumeirah Beach 2 library, located at one of Dubai’s designated night beaches, expands Dubai Municipality’s growing network of beach libraries. The concept was first introduced at Kite Beach, with plans to establish a total of eight libraries across Dubai’s beaches.

Visitors can freely access the collection, selecting books and reading them while enjoying the coastal setting. The libraries feature a diverse range of titles in Arabic and English, including literature, history, and children’s books.

The initiative reflects Dubai’s continued efforts to promote reading in creative public spaces while enhancing the beach experience for residents and tourists alike.
