Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed 67 rapid traffic improvement projects across the emirate in 2025, delivering measurable gains in traffic flow, road capacity and safety as the city responds to rising mobility demands driven by urban growth.
The programme covered 46 upgrades at critical points on major arterial roads and within residential neighbourhoods, 12 targeted interventions serving more than 30 schools, and nine enhancements across key development areas. Together, the measures reduced travel times by up to 45 per cent in several locations and increased vehicle capacity by as much as 33 per cent on selected corridors.
More upgrades planned for 2026
Building on the progress made this year, RTA is preparing to roll out more than 45 additional traffic improvement measures in 2026. Planned works include widening and upgrading major intersections, improving entry and exit points in residential and commercial districts, and delivering further rapid traffic solutions around school zones.
The initiatives reflect RTA’s ongoing commitment to sustainable infrastructure development, congestion reduction and improved connectivity between residential, educational and development areas, while supporting quality of life across the emirate.
High-impact corridors
In 2025, traffic solutions delivered tangible improvements in high-density areas such as Al Warqa’a, Al Barsha South, Nad Al Hamar and Al Ras, as well as along major corridors including Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Meydan Street, Emirates Road towards Sharjah, Umm Al Sheif Street, Al Wasl Street, Ras Al Khor Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street and Al Manara Street.
Key upgrades included widening Sheikh Zayed Road towards Al Meydan Street, increasing lanes from two to three at the entrance to Al Khawaneej, and expanding Al Meydan Bridge from three to four lanes. The exit from Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Meydan Street was also widened from one to two lanes, alongside improvements to connecting surface roads and bridge links.
At the intersection of Al Wasl Street and Al Manara Street, targeted works increased vehicular capacity by 50 per cent and cut waiting times by more than 30 per cent.
Safer school zones
RTA also prioritised safer and more efficient school environments, implementing 12 traffic improvement measures serving over 30 schools across Dubai in 2025. Locations included the Al Warqa’a First School Complex, Mizhar First School Complex, Al Qusais School Complex, Al Mawakeb School in Al Garhoud, English College in Al Safa 1, Zayed Educational Complex in Mizhar 4, and the Al Barsha South School Complex.
Enhancements featured dedicated parking areas, improved entry and exit points, and traffic-calming measures. These steps significantly reduced congestion and queuing during peak hours, while improving road safety and traffic efficiency around school zones.
