Dubai RTA rolls out Ramadan road safety drive for taxi, delivery drivers

Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai has launched a wide-ranging road safety campaign for Ramadan, focusing on taxi drivers, delivery riders and workers across the emirate, as part of efforts to reduce accidents and promote responsible driving during the Holy Month.

The authority said the initiative is designed to encourage safer behaviour on the roads, particularly at peak hours when fasting, fatigue and rush before iftar can increase risks.

40,000 leaflets distributed

More than 40,000 awareness leaflets have been handed out along with iftar meals and Ramadan gifts. The campaign has been carried out in collaboration with several public and private sector partners, including Dubai Police, Dubai Taxi Company, Careem, DAMAC Properties and Sobha Realty, among others.

The outreach targeted drivers and workers at key operational hubs and gathering points across Dubai.

Ahmed Al Khzaimy, Director of Traffic at RTA, said Ramadan presents an important opportunity to reinforce the goals of Dubai’s Traffic Safety Strategy.

He urged motorists to reflect the values of patience and tolerance associated with the Holy Month, comply with traffic laws and show consideration for fellow road users, especially while fasting.

Key safety tips for Ramadan driving

RTA has issued a set of practical guidelines for motorists during Ramadan:

  • Avoid driving immediately after consuming a heavy iftar meal.

  • Maintain patience and keep a safe distance from other vehicles.

  • Plan journeys in advance and choose the safest transport option.

  • Promote tolerance and avoid arguments or road disputes.

  • Avoid sleeping inside vehicles with windows fully closed.

Authorities often record changes in driving patterns during Ramadan, with higher traffic volumes before sunset and increased fatigue during the day.

Revised truck movement timings

To enhance safety and ease congestion, RTA has adjusted truck movement restriction timings on major routes during Ramadan.

On the E11 corridor, from the Sharjah border to Interchange 7, and across key city areas, restrictions will apply from 7:00am to 11:00pm.

For roads with three daily restriction periods, morning restrictions will run from 7:30am to 9:30am, while afternoon restrictions will apply from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

On Emirates Road, restrictions will be in place from 4:30pm to 7:00pm. On Fridays, truck movement will be restricted from 12:00pm to 3:00pm.

Year-round truck bans remain in force

RTA reminded drivers that truck movement continues to be prohibited throughout the year in several key tunnels and bridges, including:

  • Al Shindagha Tunnel

  • Al Maktoum Bridge

  • Al Garhoud Bridge

  • Business Bay Crossing

  • Infinity Bridge

  • Airport Tunnel

The authority stressed that compliance with these rules is essential to maintaining smooth traffic flow and preventing serious accidents.

Meanwhile, Gulf News has also launched its “Safe Roads during Ramadan” campaign, highlighting the importance of staying fully alert behind the wheel and avoiding distractions that could lead to devastating consequences.

As Ramadan progresses, authorities continue to call on all motorists to prioritise safety, patience and mutual respect on Dubai’s roads.
