Meet Hannah Varghese, the 10-year-old wonderkid from Jebel Ali School who’s already an author! She’s just released Undercover Mischief Tales of the Homework Club, a fun-filled adventure that takes readers on a journey of friendship, mischief, and school life.
So, how did this all start? Well, it all began when Hannah was just in Year 2. Her teacher, Miss Hyde, read out one of Hannah’s poems to the class, and she hasn’t looked back since! “I loved the process and was so proud of my work,” Hannah says. “When Miss Hyde liked it, I felt even more motivated to write.” That simple encouragement sparked a serious passion for writing, and now we have her very first book!
But it’s not just her teacher’s support that got her here. Hannah’s love for reading was a huge part of her journey too. “Reading so many books made me realize that storytelling was my true passion,” she says. And the best part? Meeting one of her heroes, the legendary David Walliams, at the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature. “I’ve read most of his books, and meeting him made me want to write my own story,” Hannah reveals.
In Undercover Mischief, Hannah brings to life a group of school friends on an epic, relatable adventure that’s filled with laughs and lessons. The book, inspired by her own experiences growing up in Dubai, reflects the diverse, multicultural world she’s a part of. “The characters in my book are inspired by the people I see around me,” she says. “Living in the UAE and attending a school like Jebel Ali, with students from all over the world, gave me so many unique personalities to bring into my story.”
It’s clear – with a supportive teacher, a little inspiration, and some serious talent, Hannah’s on her way to becoming a literary legend.
