EXA Infrastructure signs Turkey terrestrial fibre optic route pact

Collaborates with Socar Fiber

EXA Infrastructure, Europe’s leading digital infrastructure platform, has joined forces with Turkey’s Socar Fiber to establish a new terrestrial fibre optic route across Türkiye. The new partnership seeks to diversify the traditional Red Sea corridor, crucial for submarine cables connecting Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

The newly planned 1,850km route will span Turkey, from Greece to Georgia, potentially expanding towards Iraq, thereby bolstering connectivity into the Arabian Gulf region.

The collaboration highlights Turkey’s pivotal role in the digital landscape and underscores the necessity of diversified digital corridors, which are crucial for global data transmission.

Steve Roberts, Senior Vice President of network investments at EXA Infrastructure, said: “The industry’s focus on terrestrial routes has intensified, particularly following vulnerabilities identified in the Red Sea region. Our commitment to enhancing route diversity ensures robust and secure connections between Europe, North America, and beyond.”

Socar Fiber, a subsidiary of Socar Turkey, has been a key player in Turkey’s digital infrastructure since 2013, leveraging its 1,850km fibre optic network along the Tanap Natural Gas Pipeline. The new collaboration further solidifies Socar Fiber’s sector standing and contribution to Turkey’s digital transformation.
