Gresham College launches 2024-2025 free lecture programme
Topics range from space to music
A new season of enlightening free lectures will commence this September in central London, promising a diverse array of topics ranging from celestial exploration to the intricacies of the human brain.
Gresham College in Holborn has curated over 100 talks featuring renowned experts in their respective fields. The lineup includes Professor Chris Lintott from The Sky at Night, Mathematics Professor Alain Goriely, and Human Rights Lawyer Professor Clive Stafford Smith.
The programme starts with a cosmic exploration into space, followed by a broad spectrum of subjects such as the geometry of the brain and the cultural impact of iconic songs like ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone.’
Lectures will delve into fascinating themes, including the evolution of modern paganism, the UK’s unwritten constitution, and the role of mathematics in reshaping our understanding of the brain.
Professor Martin Elliott, Provost of Gresham College, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming lectures: “We are excited to present this year’s series—a captivating blend of academic rigour and accessible discourse. We aim to engage audiences of all backgrounds, offering insights into diverse fields from music to finance.”
All lectures are open to the public, either in person at Barnard’s Inn Hall or online, aligning with Sir Thomas Gresham’s founding vision in the 16th century.
Gresham College lectures have been free since the college’s establishment in the 16th century. Each lecture, typically lasting no more than an hour, features presentations by esteemed academics, including the ten Gresham Professors. They are designed for a broad audience and require no specific academic background.
The academic year spans from September to June. Most lectures are held at Barnard’s Inn Hall in Holborn and are streamed live on YouTube.
While in-person tickets can be secured on Eventbrite one month ahead of each lecture, press tickets are available earlier upon request.
