Hellmann acquires full ownership of HPL Apollo

To expand its operational footprint
Hellmann Worldwide Logistics has acquired 50 per cent of shares in HPL Apollo, a perishable logistics joint venture previously co-owned with Mercury Aviation. The move signifies Hellmann’s commitment to strengthening its position in the global perishable logistics market and expanding its capability to provide tailored, efficient solutions to customers worldwide.
HPL Apollo, based in Los Angeles, is known for its expertise in transporting perishable goods via air, sea, and road. The company has been a trusted partner in the logistics sector for years, and Hellmann’s takeover of the remaining shares from Mercury Aviation marks the end of a highly successful 12-year partnership.
Ivo Skorin, who has been with HPL Apollo since 2012, will continue to lead the company as managing director, ensuring a smooth transition and seamless operations integration within Hellmann’s global network.
Hellmann has been a prominent player in perishable logistics across the Americas for decades, with a robust presence in Peru, Mexico, Brazil, and Chile. With this acquisition, Hellmann aims to reinforce its foothold in the US market, operating in significant locations such as Miami, Los Angeles, Honolulu, and San Francisco.
The company’s growth strategy includes further expanding its presence in the US and targeting new markets across the Americas, including Colombia, Ecuador, and Central America, over the next few years.
Jens Drewes, CEO of Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, highlighted the strategic importance of the acquisition. “We are committed to expanding internationally, with North America being a key focus in our journey,” said Drewes.
The acquisition strengthens Hellmann’s ability to offer comprehensive perishable logistics services to its clients while expanding its operational footprint.
Peter Huwel, Regional CEO of Americas at Hellmann, said: “By acquiring HPL Apollo, we are leveraging collaborative opportunities within our global network, delivering even better solutions to our customers. At the same time, we are pleased that Ivo will continue managing the business, ensuring continuity and strengthening our unified team.”
The acquisition of HPL Apollo is seen as a strategic move for Hellmann to expand its perishable logistics capabilities further, enhance service offerings, and build on the successes of its partnership with Mercury Aviation, helping the company provide top-tier logistics solutions in an increasingly globalised market.
