Khalifa University of Science and Technology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Wajeb Volunteering Association to increase student participation in volunteer programmes and community initiatives, reinforcing a culture of social responsibility and supporting the UAE’s sustainable development goals.
The agreement was signed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Mohamed Al Nahyan, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Wajeb Volunteering Association, and Professor Ebrahim Al Hajri, President of Khalifa University.
Under the partnership, Khalifa University students will gain access to Wajeb’s volunteer programmes, allowing them to apply their academic knowledge and practical skills in community service while developing leadership, teamwork, and social responsibility.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Mohamed Al Nahyan said the collaboration reflects the UAE’s vision of empowering young people and encouraging them to play an active role in the nation’s development. He emphasised that promoting volunteerism among university students is essential to preparing future generations capable of making meaningful contributions to society.
Professor Ebrahim Al Hajri said the partnership aligns with Khalifa University’s commitment to producing graduates who combine academic excellence with community engagement.
“As the UAE’s only university ranked among the world’s top 150, Khalifa University is committed to providing students with meaningful volunteering opportunities that strengthen values such as empathy, leadership, and national service,” he said.
The collaboration will identify volunteering opportunities linked to students’ academic disciplines, including science, technology, engineering, healthcare, and environmental sustainability. Participants will also receive formal recognition through structured co-curricular programmes, with volunteer hours contributing to their overall student development.
Both organisations said the MoU reflects their shared commitment to developing a new generation of socially responsible leaders equipped to contribute to the UAE’s long-term national development.
