Mubadala Foundation and the UAE Handball Federation have announced a strategic partnership to support the development of young Emirati handball players during the 2026–2027 season, marking a significant step towards strengthening grassroots sports in the country.
Under the agreement, the competition will officially be renamed the Youth Handball League presented by Mubadala, bringing together 13 teams competing throughout the season.
The collaboration represents the first partnership of its kind for a youth league in the history of UAE handball. It highlights the growing importance of investment in young athletes and cooperation between national institutions and sporting organisations to develop local talent.
The initiative forms part of Mubadala Foundation’s broader commitment to empowering Emirati youth through sports, encouraging active participation and providing aspiring athletes with opportunities to develop their technical abilities and gain valuable competitive experience.
Khaled Al Rashedi, Chairman of Mubadala Foundation, emphasised the importance of creating pathways for emerging sporting talent.
“Through our partnership with the UAE Handball Federation, we are creating opportunities for young athletes to compete, grow and realise their potential, while nurturing a generation ready to contribute to the UAE’s continued progress,” he said.
Eng. Saud Ibrahim Saleh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the UAE Handball Federation, welcomed the collaboration and expressed appreciation for Mubadala Foundation’s support.
He highlighted that the partnership would help establish a competitive sporting environment where young players can strengthen their skills, gain practical experience and prepare for future opportunities with their respective clubs and UAE national teams.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mona Ibrahim Al Raisi, Board Member of the UAE Handball Federation and Chairperson of its Investment and Marketing Committee and Media and Corporate Communication Committee, described the agreement as an important milestone in the federation’s youth development strategy.
She stressed that partnerships with leading national institutions play a vital role in supporting emerging athletes, strengthening the foundation of Emirati handball and ensuring the sport’s continued development.
The partnership is expected to strengthen youth participation in handball while supporting the UAE’s efforts to build a sustainable pipeline of talented players capable of competing at higher levels.
