Nerosicilia takes part in Milan Design Week 2025

Through design, sound, colour

Italian design company Nerosicilia, renowned for its expertise in handling volcanic stone, will captivate audiences at Milan Design Week 2025 with three groundbreaking installations that seamlessly merge art, technology, and nature.

From April 7 to 13, Nerosicilia will unveil three innovative creations: Cubo, a harmonious fusion of sound and stone; Bluse, a vibrant collection of coloured surfaces; and Campo, a celebration of contemporary hospitality that bridges tradition and modernity.

Cubo: Where matter transforms into music

The heart of Nerosicilia’s presentation lies in Cubo, a speaker designed by Nerolabstudio in collaboration with DoDeca. This minimalist object, sculpted from volcanic stone, offers a striking example of how the physical world can merge with digital technology. With a design focused on simplicity and purity, Cubo embodies the tactile beauty of stone, transforming the material into a musical source.

Sinfonia Vulcanica, an installation by Leonardo Talarico, serves as the narrative backdrop for Cubo. A monumental out-of-scale grand piano, towering nine metres, extends infinitely with its keyboard dissolving into the sky. Crafted from metal and volcanic stone by expert artisans, this impressive structure represents the intersection of nature and sound.

The Cubo speakers emerge from this vast, outstretched piano, whose sound shifts and evolves in tone, producing a unique and immersive auditory experience. Cubo features Bluetooth technology that allows up to 100 units to connect simultaneously, creating a soundscape that can fill any environment, be it indoors or outdoors.

The installation blurs the line between the physical and the audible. Notes played by musicians from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Milan reverberate through the volcanic stone, transforming silence into a symphonic experience. Reflecting this harmonious union, a mirrored platform on the ground multiplies the piano’s keys, enhancing the interaction between music, sound, and stone.

“In this work, design is a revelation,” explains Talarico. “A keyboard dissolves into the sky, harmonising materials and melodies. It expresses the primordial dialogue between nature and music, past and present.”

Blues: Vibrant surfaces that dance with colour

Nerosicilia’s exploration of design continues at its showroom on Via Solferino 18, where the Bluse collection debuts with a burst of colour. Designed by Jpeglab, Bluse transforms volcanic stone into an expressive, dynamic surface. Drawing inspiration from the iconic sailor blouses women wore in the late 19th century, Bluse channels the soft, luminous quality of Impressionist art, particularly the works of Pierre-Auguste Renoir.

Just as Renoir captured light and movement, blue surfaces evoke a similar interplay of shadow and brightness. The collection’s design is based on the Colorfield technique, with striped patterns that imbue the volcanic stone with the fluidity of textiles. The vibrant palette, ranging from deep blacks and whites to the dreamy hues of red, lilac, indigo, and pastel shades of blue, green, and yellow, adds an emotional and artistic dimension to any space.

With Blue, Nerosicilia continues its innovation journey, blending tradition with contemporary aesthetics to create unique sensory experiences. The collection celebrates light, colour, and material, transforming spaces into lively, poetic environments.

Campo: A dialogue between tradition and innovation in hospitality

Nerosicilia’s presence at Milan Design Week 2025 extends to the Next Place Hotel project at Via Savona 35, a visionary concept by renowned designer Giulio Cappellini. The Campo tile, designed by Giuseppe Arezzi, takes centre stage within the reimagined hospitality space.

Made from volcanic stone, the tile features a green glass decoration that abstractly references traditional Sicilian majolica motifs, reminiscent of the lush meadows of the Iblean countryside.

Crafted from recycled glass sourced from discarded TVs and computer monitors, Campo represents a sustainable approach to design. Its modular nature creates a dynamic, flexible surface that seamlessly blends tradition with innovation.

In Cappellini’s installation, Campo transforms the courtyard into a vibrant and interactive space that speaks to the future of hospitality design, where material and sustainability are integral to contemporary living.

With Campo, Nerosicilia reinforces its commitment to sustainable artisanry and transforming materials into meaningful stories. It is a perfect example of how design can honour the past while embracing the future.
