Peec Mobility: Pioneering sustainable transport in the UAE

Converting ICE vehicles to EVs

Peec Mobility, a Dubai-based startup, is transforming the electric vehicle (EV) landscape in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by transforming internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles into electric vehicles (EVs).

The company addresses the UAE’s growing demand for sustainable transport solutions while contributing to global climate goals.

The company’s innovative approach involves retrofitting used ICE vehicles with electric drivetrains, such as taxis and waste collection trucks. This method provides a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to manufacturing new EVs.

Zain Shaikh, Head of Brand and Marketing at Peec Mobility, stated in an exclusive interview with Middle East News 247 that by repurposing older ICE vehicles, Peec is reducing the carbon footprint associated with vehicle production and accelerating the shift to electric mobility.

Shaikh was speaking during the Electric Vehicle Innovation Summit (EVIS), the largest EV event in the MENA region, which took place in Abu Dhabi from April 21 to 23, 2025.

Peec’s commitment to quality and safety is evident in its recent achievement: its UAE-designed battery packs have passed stringent R100.02 certification. This milestone highlights the company’s dedication to meeting international safety and performance standards, ensuring its repurposed EVs are reliable and safe for users.

Peec is leading a ‘Retruck’ initiative in partnership with Beeah Group and the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park. This project aims to transform end-of-life internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles into electric vehicles, starting with Beeah’s fleet of waste collection trucks.

The collaboration seeks to create a specialised ‘ReFactory’ in Sharjah, facilitating the widespread implementation of this solution throughout the emirate and supporting the UAE’s strategic goal of achieving Net Zero by 2050.

Peec’s impact extends beyond vehicle conversion in the UAE. The company engages with local communities, partnering with educational institutions like the International School of Choueifat Sharjah to inspire the next generation of automotive engineers. Through these collaborations, Peec fosters skill development and promotes awareness of sustainable practices.

Peec plans to expand its operations internationally, leveraging its expertise to offer affordable and scalable EV solutions to markets in the Global South. By repurposing ICE vehicles, Peec aims to reduce the need for new manufacturing, thereby minimising emissions and promoting a circular economy.
