Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Ghana on July 2–3, 2025, marking historic step in India-Ghana ties

In a landmark development in India-Africa relations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on his first-ever bilateral visit to Ghana from July 2–3, 2025. This visit also marks the first prime ministerial visit from India to Ghana in over three decades, underscoring the growing strategic importance of West Africa in India’s foreign policy priorities.

During the two-day visit, Prime Minister Modi will hold high-level talks with President of Ghana. The leaders are expected to review the robust India-Ghana bilateral partnership and explore new avenues of cooperation, with a special focus on economic engagement, energy collaboration, defence cooperation, and development partnerships.

“This visit will strengthen the ties between India and Ghana and open up further avenues for expansion through economic, energy and defence cooperation, and development cooperation partnerships,” said Gautam Karve, Editor-in-Chief of the World Media Organization. “It signifies a renewed chapter of trust and mutual growth between the two democracies.”

India and Ghana share long-standing historical and cultural connections dating back to the early years of Ghana’s independence. India has consistently supported Ghana’s development journey through capacity-building programs, concessional lines of credit, and private sector investments.

This visit is also expected to reaffirm the shared commitment of the two nations to deepen bilateral ties and bolster India’s engagement with key regional groupings such as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union. It comes at a time when India is actively enhancing its outreach to Africa through strategic investments, people-to-people exchanges, and collaborative development initiatives.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Ghana is being closely watched by observers as a significant milestone in India-Africa relations, setting the stage for a new era of strategic partnership and mutual development.
