SEHA’s Corniche Hospital Highlights Early Diagnosis and Specialised Management of High-Risk Caesarean Scar Pregnancy

A specialist-led care pathway enables early diagnosis and treatment of a rare condition that can cause serious maternal complications if not detected in time

Abu Dhabi, UAE, 27 October 2026 – SEHA, a subsidiary of PureHealth, the largest healthcare group in the Middle East, highlighted the successful diagnosis and management of a high-risk caesarean scar pregnancy at SEHA’s Corniche Hospital, reflecting the hospital’s specialist capability in identifying and treating complex early pregnancy conditions that require timely intervention.

Caesarean scar pregnancy is a rare form of ectopic pregnancy in which the embryo implants within the scar of a previous caesarean section. Although uncommon, delayed or missed diagnosis can lead to serious complications for the mother this could potentially be life-threatening. The rise in caesarean section rates has contributed to increasing awareness of caesarean scar ectopic pregnancy as a high-risk condition that can be challenging to diagnose. Access to expert evaluation, supported by appropriate imaging and specialist clinical judgement, plays an important role in improving outcomes and reducing the risk of serious complications.

Corniche Hospital serves as referral centre for diagnosis and management of caesarean scar ectopic pregnancy with almost 100 referrals per year, from diagnostic assessment through to individualised management, based on the patient’s clinical condition and risk profile.

The expert team at SEHA’s Corniche Hospital has recently marked its fourth year of providing this unique service and managed a high-risk case through its consultant-led specialised service, where the condition was identified and treated.

Dr. Yasmin Sana, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Consultant at SEHA’s Corniche Hospital, said: “Caesarean scar ectopic pregnancy is a high-risk condition that requires early recognition and careful clinical assessment. Undetected caesarean scar pregnancies can pose serious risks to maternal health. Accurate diagnosis can be challenging, and timely evaluation by clinicians with expertise in this area is essential to guiding appropriate management. At Corniche Hospital, we provide comprehensive consultant-led care for patients with suspected caesarean scar pregnancy, from diagnosis through to tailored treatment planning based on each individual case.”

Through its specialised women’s health services, SEHA’s Corniche Hospital continues to support early diagnosis and expert management of complex obstetric and gynaecological conditions, helping improve safety and outcomes for women across Abu Dhabi and the UAE.
