Sharjah Digital Department (SDD) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to strengthen cooperation in digital capability development, knowledge exchange and technical expertise.
The agreement supports Sharjah’s wider digital transformation agenda and aims to enhance the capabilities of government entities while improving the delivery of digital public services across the emirate.
The MoU was signed on the sidelines of AWS Summit 2026 by Sheikh Saud bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Director-General of Sharjah Digital Department, and Chris Erasmus, General Manager, UAE & Rest of MENA at Amazon Web Services.
Sheikh Saud said the agreement reflects SDD’s approach to building strategic partnerships with leading global technology companies and benefiting from their expertise to help government entities keep pace with rapid technological change.
He said capability development and knowledge exchange are central to achieving sustainable digital transformation, adding that the partnership with AWS will enable Sharjah to benefit from global technical expertise.
The cooperation will focus on developing government employees’ skills in advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and cloud computing, with the aim of improving operational efficiency, strengthening public services and delivering greater value to the community.
Erasmus said AWS remains committed to supporting the digital ambitions of governments across the region, noting that developing local expertise in cloud computing is essential to achieving meaningful digital transformation.
He added that AWS looks forward to working with SDD to equip government teams with the skills and tools required to develop innovative and efficient services for Sharjah residents.
Under the MoU, SDD and AWS will collaborate on specialised training programmes and capability-building initiatives for government professionals in artificial intelligence, cloud computing and related technologies.
The programmes are intended to improve readiness for future digital requirements and help government entities respond more effectively to emerging technological developments.
The partnership will also involve the exchange of expertise and best practices in areas including technology policies, data classification and data privacy.
Both sides will also explore frameworks that allow Sharjah government entities to adopt and benefit from technology solutions in accordance with their operational needs, relevant policies and regulatory requirements.
The agreement supports the Sharjah Digital Transformation Strategy 2026–2028, which seeks to strengthen government digital capabilities, improve service delivery and establish an integrated and sustainable digital government ecosystem.
