Three power stations halted after gas pipeline blast in Syria

Dubai, UAE — Oct. 2026 — Three Syrian power stations have shut down after a gas pipeline exploded at the Tishreen thermal power plant, cutting the gas supplies needed to run them, state news agency SANA reported.

The Syrian Electricity Company said in a statement on Wednesday that the fire caused by the explosion was still burning. Specialist teams were continuing to deal with the incident.

The company said the shutdown of the three stations would temporarily reduce the amount of electricity generated and lengthen rationing hours, because of the shortfall in available generation capacity.

It said it would announce further updates on the condition of the stations and the state of the electricity supply as they emerge.
