UAE Citizens Can Now Renew Emirates ID Cards in a Single Step

Abu Dhabi in a significant move to simplify government services, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) has announced that UAE citizens can now renew or replace their Emirates ID cards through a streamlined one-step process.

The new system eliminates multiple previous requirements, reducing the process to just two actions: submitting the application and paying the fees. Previously, applicants had to complete additional steps such as entering personal address details, reviewing pre-filled information from the database, and verifying ID templates before submission. These non-essential procedures have now been removed to make the service faster and more efficient.

The validity period of the Emirates ID continues to be determined automatically, mirroring the system used for UAE passports. Citizens aged 21 and above will receive an ID card valid for 10 years, while those under 21 will be issued a card with a 5-year validity. For replacement services, the new card will match the remaining validity period of the existing ID. The ICP clarified that applicants cannot modify the validity duration in the application form.

According to the ICP, this enhancement forms part of its wider strategy to achieve “zero bureaucracy” while modernising its smart services platform. The aim is to reduce paperwork, streamline customer journeys, and ensure that Emiratis can access essential services with minimal effort.

The Emirates ID is a vital document for UAE citizens, serving not only as official identification but also as a key requirement for accessing a range of government and private sector services. By simplifying the renewal and replacement process, the ICP hopes to ease administrative burdens while supporting the country’s broader digital transformation goals.

This initiative underscores the UAE’s commitment to creating a government system that is both user-friendly and future-ready, ensuring seamless service delivery in line with the nation’s vision for innovation and efficiency.
