Residents across the United Arab Emirates received a mobile notification from the UAE Ministry of Defence confirming that the situation in the country is safe after earlier alerts about potential missile and drone threats.
The nationwide alert thanked residents for their cooperation and assured the public that daily activities could resume while remaining cautious and attentive to official guidance.
“Thank you for your cooperation. We reassure you that the situation is currently safe. You may resume your normal activities while continuing to remain cautious, take the necessary precautions, and follow official instructions,” the message stated.
Authorities also urged residents to stay vigilant, follow safety instructions issued by government entities, and rely only on official channels for updates.
Air Defence Systems Respond to Threats
Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Defence confirmed that UAE air defence systems had actively responded to incoming missiles and drones launched from Iran amid ongoing regional tensions.
Officials explained that the alert sounds heard in several areas were triggered during interception operations carried out by the country’s defence systems. These warning signals were part of emergency protocols designed to notify residents during potential security threats.
Guidance for Residents During Emergency Alerts
Authorities reminded the public to follow safety guidelines whenever emergency alerts are issued:
-
Prioritise safety over recording: Avoid filming or sharing videos on social media during emergency alerts. Follow official instructions immediately.
-
Motorists should continue driving: Drivers are advised to keep moving safely toward their destination and only seek shelter once they arrive. Stopping vehicles on the road can create additional risks.
-
Seek secure locations: Residents should move to a safe place or remain indoors until an official “all clear” notification is announced.
-
Use emergency hotlines responsibly: Call 999 only in genuine emergencies to ensure lines remain available for critical situations.
-
Avoid spreading rumours: Residents are encouraged not to circulate unverified information and instead rely on official government announcements.
Updates to UAE’s National Early Warning System
The UAE has recently enhanced its National Early Warning System (NEWS) to strengthen public safety during emergencies such as natural disasters, civil incidents, or missile and drone threats.
Key features of the updated system include:
-
Distinct alert tones: High-pitched sounds indicate an emergency alert, while standard tones signal the end of an alert.
-
Time-based sound signals:
-
9:00 am – 10:30 pm: High tone for alerts, standard tone for the end of alerts
-
10:30 pm – 9:00 am: Standard tone used for both alerts and the end of alerts
-
-
Mobile notifications: Alerts are also delivered through official applications and SMS messages to ensure residents receive timely warnings.
-
Improved sound patterns: Recent adjustments aim to reduce confusion and improve clarity during defence operations and regional security incidents.
Authorities continue to advise residents to stay informed through official government platforms and follow all safety instructions during emergency alerts.
