The Ministry of Economy and Tourism and Emirates Nuclear Energy Company have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing cooperation in intellectual property (IP) protection and patent development within the UAE’s nuclear energy sector.

The agreement was signed during the Make it in the Emirates 2026 forum in the presence of Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri. The MoU was formalised by Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, and Mohamed Al Hammadi.

Under the partnership, both entities will work together to promote a stronger culture of intellectual property protection across ENEC and its subsidiaries. The collaboration includes specialised training programmes, knowledge-sharing workshops, and expert legal and technical consultations designed to support innovation and research in the nuclear sector.

The Ministry will also provide accelerated patent examination services for ENEC’s applications and support the commercialisation of registered patents, reinforcing ENEC’s efforts to develop advanced nuclear intellectual capital and technology capabilities.

Abdullah Al Saleh said the Ministry continues to strengthen the UAE’s intellectual property ecosystem through advanced legislative and regulatory frameworks aligned with international best practices. He highlighted the UAE’s Law on the Regulation and Protection of Industrial Property Rights as a key pillar in protecting inventions, innovations, and industrial designs across multiple sectors.

He noted that the UAE recorded 7,915 registered patents and 11,346 industrial design registrations by the end of September 2025, reflecting the country’s growing innovation and research landscape.

Al Saleh added that the MoU supports the UAE’s national innovation agenda by encouraging inventors and innovators to create advanced solutions for the nuclear energy industry. He said the agreement will facilitate the exchange of expertise and best practices between both sides while helping build an advanced research and development environment aligned with the goals of the UAE’s “We the UAE 2031” vision.
