The UAE has inaugurated one of the world’s largest ultra-fast electric vehicle charging hubs, marking a major step in the country’s push toward cleaner, smarter mobility.
ADNOC Distribution said the new facility at Saih Shuaib on the E11 highway between Abu Dhabi and Dubai is the sixth largest superfast EV charging hub globally and the largest of its kind across the Middle East, Africa, and Turkey. The launch comes ahead of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, as global leaders gather in the capital to discuss the future of sustainable energy and infrastructure.
The EV Mega Hub features 60 high-speed charging points capable of charging most electric vehicles from 0 to 80 per cent in around 20 minutes. Its strategic location on one of the UAE’s busiest inter-city corridors is designed to support seamless long-distance EV travel.
ADNOC Distribution said the site sits at the heart of its plan to electrify the UAE’s highway network. Under its roadmap, the company aims to open 20 EV charging hubs nationwide by the end of 2027, with 15 expected to be operational by the end of 2026, ensuring coverage across all core national highways.
Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, said the project aligns with the UAE’s National Electric Vehicles Policy and long-term sustainability goals. He noted that expanding high-speed charging infrastructure is central to reducing energy consumption in transport and supporting the national ambition for electric vehicles to account for 50 per cent of cars on UAE roads by 2050.
Eng. Bader Saeed Al Lamki, Chief Executive Officer of ADNOC Distribution, said the launch reflects the company’s shift toward future-ready mobility solutions. He added that the Saih Shuaib site is the first “The Hub by ADNOC” location designed specifically for inter-city commuters, allowing EV drivers to travel confidently between the country’s two largest cities.
The EV Mega Hub also marks the opening of the first commuter-focused The Hub by ADNOC destination. With a footprint three times larger than a traditional service station, the site combines fuel and EV charging with food, retail, and lifestyle services. It is also the first to include a coworking space, offering travellers a comfortable environment to work or connect while on the move.
The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has set a target for battery-electric vehicles to make up half of all vehicles on UAE roads by 2050. ADNOC Distribution is supporting this goal through its E2GO network, one of the country’s largest charge point operators, with more than 400 charging points already installed and plans to reach up to 750 by 2028.
With more than 560 service stations across the UAE, ADNOC Distribution said it is well positioned to scale EV infrastructure efficiently, meeting current demand while preparing for the rapid growth expected as the nation accelerates its transition to sustainable transport.
