More than 3,000 people across the UAE have received support to quit smoking through specialised smoking cessation services offered by Emirates Health Services (EHS), as the organisation continues to strengthen preventive healthcare programmes and promote healthier lifestyles nationwide.
Marking World No Tobacco Day, EHS announced that it currently operates 18 dedicated smoking cessation clinics through its primary healthcare centres across the country. The clinics provide a comprehensive range of services designed to help smokers overcome tobacco addiction and reduce the risk of smoking-related illnesses.
The programme combines medical treatment, behavioural counselling and ongoing follow-up care, while also focusing on raising awareness about the health dangers associated with tobacco use. EHS said the initiative plays a key role in its broader strategy to improve public health, enhance quality of life and reduce the burden of chronic diseases.
Individuals seeking support can register through the EHS smart application or visit participating healthcare centres directly. Following registration, patients undergo a detailed health assessment conducted by specialised medical teams, with records maintained electronically to support personalised treatment and monitoring.
According to EHS, the clinics follow an integrated treatment model that includes behavioural therapy, medication support, virtual consultations and regular follow-up sessions aimed at preventing relapse. Advanced biometric monitoring technology is also used to measure carbon monoxide levels in patients, enabling healthcare professionals to track progress and provide motivation throughout the quitting process.
Smoking cessation services are available to UAE citizens and residents aged 16 and above through healthcare facilities located in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah.
New Digital Tools and Expansion Plans
EHS revealed plans to further expand its smoking cessation services through innovative digital solutions and enhanced public awareness initiatives.
Among the upcoming projects is a dedicated smart application that will offer personalised treatment plans, daily goals and reminder notifications to help users stay on track throughout their quit-smoking journey.
The organisation is also evaluating additional support measures, including a psychological support hotline, group therapy programmes, broader social media awareness campaigns and educational initiatives aimed at students aged 15 and above. EHS is also considering recognition programmes for individuals who successfully quit smoking as a way to encourage healthier lifestyle choices.
Demand for Services Continues to Rise
EHS reported a steady increase in demand for smoking cessation services over the past three years. In 2025, the number of beneficiaries grew by approximately 20 percent compared to 2024, reflecting rising public awareness about the dangers of smoking and growing trust in available healthcare support services.
The organisation also highlighted several recent achievements, including specialised workshops and training programmes for 74 physicians. In addition, EHS has introduced dedicated clinical performance indicators for smoking cessation clinics and integrated treatment pathways into the Wareed healthcare information system to support consistent, high-quality patient care across its network.
