50 new faculty members join United Arab Emirates University
United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) has inducted 50 new faculty members in various academic disciplines ahead of the start of the university’s new academic year.
Founded in 1969 and located in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi emirate, the research-intensive university is the UAE’s first national university and currently has more than 14,000 Emirati and international students.
Prof. Ghaleb Al Breiki, Acting Vice Chancellor, UAEU, welcomed the 50 new faculty members in the presence of the college deans and the department chairs in a meeting organised by the university’s Human Resources Department
During the meeting with the new faculty members and others, Aisha Al Dhaheri, Director of the Human Resources Department, UAEU, delivered a presentation on the university’s facilities, services, and privileges available to the university’s employees and their families.
According to Zakir Anwar Nusseibeh, Chancellor, UAEU, the university’s strategic direction is aligned with disciplines and issues that the UAE government has prioritised to advance the UAE’s economic, social, and global growth.
Prioritising the UAE
“We are directed by the Principles of the Next Fifty, the UAEU Centennial Plan 2071, the UAE Strategy for Advanced Innovation, and Abu Dhabi’s Future Research and Development Priorities,” Nusseibeh noted.
As part of its international research status, UAEU collaborates with industry partners to provide research solutions to challenges faced by the UAE, the Middle East region, and the world at large.
In this context, the university has established research centres of strategic importance to the UAE and the Middle East region that are furthering knowledge transfer in critical areas, ranging from the management and conservation of freshwater resources to cancer treatment.
UAEU offers graduate and undergraduate programmes encompassing business and economics, education, engineering, agriculture and veterinary medicine, humanities and social sciences, IT, law, medicine and health sciences, and science.
UAEU alumni hold key positions in industry, commerce, and government throughout the Middle East region.
The university is ranked sixth in the Arab region, and 290th worldwide.
