Is it a phone, a purse, or both? Honor V Purse thinks it is both
Honor commits to foldable smartphones at IFA 2023
Honor, a leading global provider of smart devices, has launched the all-new Honor V Purse foldable smartphone as a wearable, fashion-forward, feminine purse.
Honor launched the V Purse at IFA 2023, the world’s largest consumer electronics and home appliances trade show in Berlin, Germany (September 1-5, 2023).
The V Purse foldable smartphone transforms into the ultimate phy-gital fashion statement, thanks to a series of customisable always-on displays (AODs) that mimic a purse design, including design elements such as chains, feathers and tassels that react and sway with the smartphone as a user moves it (see featured image).
The concept phone is compatible with a range of interchangeable straps and chains, which clip onto the hinge to allow the smartphone to be worn effortlessly over one’s shoulder like an ordinary purse or handbag, enabling it to become the new ‘it’ bag of the future.
With the new ‘phone-to-purse’ V Purse concept, Honor says the brand is shaping future lifestyles by pioneering personal devices as an entirely new category of fashionable consumer goods that offer unlimited opportunities for self-expression.
Engineered with sustainability in mind, in addition to featuring sustainably sourced materials such as vegan leather for its straps, the V Purse’s endlessly customisable AODs can be paired with any outfit.
According to Honor, as the fashion industry transcends the physical world into a more digital space, technology enables unlimited possibilities for style and self-expression.
In this small way, V Purse can help environmentally conscious consumers cut down on their consumption of fast fashion, and more importantly, it helps the fashion world embrace new technologies to encourage consumers to buy less and use for longer.
Adhering to its open-collaboration brand spirit, Honor has teamed up with reputed cultural tastemakers from across its Honor Talents Global Design Awards platform, including creative director from BURBERRY menswear Bram Van Diepen, contemporary artist Yunuene Esparza, professor of the China Academy of Art Yuan Youmin and crossover artist Xiao Hui Wang, to design a series of custom fashionable AODs for the V Purse.
Honor Magic V2 debuts at IFA 2023
During IFA 2023 in Berlin, Honor hosted the world premiere of its new flagship foldable smartphone, the Honor Magic V2.
The Magic V2 sets new smartphone industry benchmarks with significant improvements across form factor, battery, display, and user experience aspects.
The Magic V2 is the lightest and thinnest inward-foldable smartphone that Honor has introduced, weighing only 231g and measuring 9.9mm thick when folded.
It features a new generation of silicon carbon dual batteries with an average thickness of just 2.72mm. It achieves a high capacity of up to 5,000mAh packed into a thin, light, foldable flagship body.
The Magic V2 also features a first-of-its-kind super-light titanium hinge and a new proprietary steel, adding robustness and durability to the hinge mechanism.
The Magic V2’s hinge can withstand more than 400,000 folds, ensuring a lifespan of up to 10 years from folding the phone 100 times daily.
The Magic V2 is equipped with a triple rear camera setup that includes a 50MP primary camera (f/1.9), a 50MP ultra-wide camera (f/2.0), and a 20MP telephoto camera (f/2.4). The front-facing dual camera setup features two 16MP cameras (f/2.2).
Incorporating human-centric innovation, the Magic V2 supports industry-leading 3840Hz PWM dimming technology to minimise eye strain, ensuring comfortable viewing even during extended use.
The Magic V2 supports hovering photography and other experiences like meetings and entertainment.
The phone also supports Parallel Space, which allows work and life data to be stored separately and data to be securely isolated. It also makes it possible to independently operate dual-space apps in parallel, like a second phone inserted into the foldable phone.
During IFA 2023, Honor announced the Shenzhen, China-based company’s smartphone strategic vision.
At an IFA 2023 keynote session entitled ‘Unfold Tomorrow,’ George Zhao, CEO of Honor, outlined the brand’s commitment to mainstream foldable smartphones with its latest human-centric innovations, including the lightest and slimmest inward foldable smartphone, the Magic V2.
Zhao said: “Honor’s foldable smartphones have come a long way, with each iteration showcasing remarkable advancements in design, functionality, and durability.
