Wellx breaks down barriers to accessing mental well-being support

May 2023, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Say goodbye to stress and hello to a happier, healthier and more resilient YOU with ‘WellxMind’ – the region’s first 24/7 mental health support and counseling service, now incorporated into your existing insurance plan at no extra cost!

Globally 1 out of 4 people suffer from some form of mental health challenge during their lifetime, yet more than 75% of those who need mental well-being support do not seek it. Wellx, the pioneering wellness-based InsurTech platform, has teamed up with Amal Counsel, a UAE-based non-profit counseling service, to offer holistic, personalized, 1-1 therapy and counseling, accessible through your mobile phone, tearing down the barriers to accessing support when you need it most.

The latest Global Burden of Disease study estimates that mental disorders are just as common in the GCC as they are worldwide. However, these tend to be underreported due to poor awareness, a shortage in mental health care professionals, and limitations in appropriate and equitable financing. An estimated 75% of people who experience mental health difficulties do not seek professional help. Through ‘WellxMind’, all Wellx customers will have access to uninterrupted, 24/7 mental health support from experienced therapists and counselors, at no additional cost.

Wellx recognizes the importance of mental health, its influence often on physical health and its contribution to an individuals’ overall wellbeing. With ‘WellxMind’ policy holders will have access to personalized and bespoke treatment plans coupled with access to a global network of mental health practitioners.

Following an initial assessment to identify where the user requires support, individuals will be paired with a therapist or counselor that best matches their needs and preferences. WellxMind can help with sleep, stress management, anxiety, depression, mood changes and so much more.

“At Wellx, we understand seeking mental well-being support may be daunting for some, and have designed WellxMind with a customer centric approach, making it easy for customers to access support, in a confidential, safe way. We believe that prioritizing mental health is essential, and we are proud to provide a service of this nature to those in need,” said Dr. Anushka Patchava, Co-founder and Chief Product Officer at Wellx.

In addition to social stigma and lack of awareness, limited insurance coverage and unaffordable prices for mental health services further hinder access to mental health care in the GCC. For instance, in the UAE, a single psychotherapy session can cost up to AED 1000. Wellx aims to eliminate this barrier completely by integrating its services with insurers, enabling customers to access mental well-being support without any additional cost – a complete game-changer in the mental health space.

Vaibhav Kashyap, Co-founder & CEO of Wellx, said “We are thrilled to be introducing WellxMind to our customer base as we strongly believe that mental well-being support should not be a luxury, rather a service that is accessible and affordable to all. We want Wellx customers to be empowered towards better physical and mental health.  Helping integrate healthier habits that contribute to an individual’s overall wellbeing is at the core of what we set out to accomplish at Wellx and the launch of WellxMind is another leap in that direction. Amal Counsel’s direct and well-equipped approach to mental health and wellbeing is an inspired and novel approach to a crucial issue that we will help mitigate, and we look forward to accomplishing great things together.”

This partnership is an exciting development not only in the insurance industry but in the mental wellbeing landscape as a whole. Additionally, it aims to create the best value from insurance premiums while also increasing awareness around mental health and wellbeing. By combining Wellx’s mission of creating healthier, happier and more resilient communities and Amal Counsel’s expertise in mental health space, the partnership will offer individuals with wellness support beyond the parameters of physical fitness and nutrition, which aligns with UAE’s National Strategy for Wellbeing 2031.

Naila Al Moosawi, Founder of Amal Counselling For a Better Tomorrow (CFBT), added “Wellx’s ethos of building healthier, happier and more resilient communities aligns with Amal Counselling CFBT’s primary vision is to make mental health affordable and accessible to the residents in UAE and where mental health is prioritized, and individuals are empowered to achieve positive mental and emotional wellbeing, creating a peaceful and more resilient society to become the best versions of themselves. By partnering with Wellx, we hope to raise awareness about the importance of prioritizing mental well-being and provide our services to a wider audience.”
