Doha: Qatar Airways has unveiled its first-ever digital destination inside the global online game Fortnite, offering players a chance to explore Doha virtually and win real-world travel rewards, including free flights.
The experience, titled QVerse Island, places players inside a digital version of Hamad International Airport, before guiding them through a stylised island inspired by the city of Doha. Highlights include environments modelled on Doha landmarks and the airport’s indoor garden, The Orchard.
Players are led through the island by Sama, the airline’s digital cabin crew, who introduces a series of mission-based challenges designed to encourage exploration.
Golden tickets and real rewards
As users progress through QVerse Island, they can uncover hidden areas that contain “golden tickets”. These unlock entries into draws for Qatar Airways travel rewards and flight tickets, turning gameplay into a direct link to future travel.
Qatar Airways said the initiative is aimed at engaging travellers earlier in their journey planning, particularly younger audiences whose travel inspiration increasingly comes from digital platforms, social media and immersive gaming environments.
By placing Doha inside Fortnite, the airline is blending virtual discovery with real-world incentives, using interactive entertainment to influence travel intent well before customers begin searching for flights.
Expanding the digital aviation ecosystem
Sama already features prominently across Qatar Airways’ digital touchpoints, including its QVerse web experience and global brand campaigns. Her move into Fortnite extends that digital identity into gaming, creating continuity across platforms where audiences spend their time.
The launch of QVerse Island also aligns with the airline’s broader technology push, including the rollout of Starlink in-flight connectivity. Qatar Airways currently operates more than 120 Starlink-enabled aircraft, offering Wi-Fi speeds of up to 500 Mbps on selected routes across the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and the Middle East.
Together, QVerse Island, Sama and Starlink underline how airlines are rethinking engagement — reaching travellers long before the airport, and in this case, starting not with a boarding pass, but with a game controller.
