Wizz Air Abu Dhabi soars to a record-breaking year in 2023

Four new A321 aircraft joined the fleet last year

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, the ultra-low-fare national airline of the UAE, recorded exceptional performance in 2023, doubling the number of flights operated and passengers carried and achieving an impressive completion rate of 99.6%.

Throughout 2023, the airline conducted 15,000 flights, facilitating the transportation of three million passengers. The carrier currently connects to 40 destinations in 27 countries from Abu Dhabi.

Notably, over 1.5 million passengers travelled point-to-point to Abu Dhabi emirate, underscoring Wizz Air Abu Dhabi’s integral role in fostering innovation, resilience, and cultural integration within the emirate’s tourism and cultural sectors.

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is proving to be a driving force behind the promotion of Abu Dhabi to the global stage, sharing the rich cultural tapestry of the emirate with the world and enhancing lives through travel experiences.

Global destinations

The airline expanded into Central Asia, North Africa, the Middle East, and Europe in the past year. In 2023, the airline added four new A321 aircraft to its fleet, bringing the total to 12, and increased its seat capacity by 135%, totalling 3.7 million seats on sale. The workforce also saw significant growth, with a 100% increase in headcount.

Johan Eidhagen, Managing Director of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, stressed: “We are very proud of all our achievements in this record-breaking year [2023], and we are delighted to continue building upon our incredible year-on-year growth.”

He added: “Our phenomenal results this year [2023] reflect our commitment to delivering travel options that are more convenient and affordable for everyone and accelerating the growth of Abu Dhabi as one of the best destinations in the world for tourism.”

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi catalyses affordable and efficient travel to a diverse range of destinations, including Alexandria (Egypt), Almaty (Kazakhstan), Amman (Jordan), and Ankara (Turkey), among others.

The airline supports the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism’s target of 24 million visitors in 2023, aligning with the UAE Tourism Strategy 2031 to enhance the Arabian Gulf nation’s position as a key tourism destination in the Middle East region.

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is a joint venture between ADQ, an Abu Dhabi-based investment and holding company, and Wizz Air Holdings.
