Serco strengthens its ESG offerings with acquistion of Climatize

The focus is on a sustainability-driven mindset

In a strategic move aimed at enhancing its capabilities in environmental services, Serco, the global public services company, has acquired Climatize Engineering Consultants, a Dubai-based environmental and sustainability service provider.

The acquisition aims to assist Serco’s clients in meeting their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitments while reducing operational costs through digital asset management.

The move is designed to create a ‘first in market’ offering, combining Serco’s international capabilities and regional network with Climatize’s specialist skills in green building engineering and sustainability strategies.

The goal is to provide Middle Eastern governments and businesses with a unique suite of services, contributing to the strategy of embedding a sustainability-driven mindset in Serco’s work.

Sustainability mission

The announcement comes one year after the launch of Serco’s Advisory with Purpose division, emphasising the company’s dedication to sustainability within and beyond the built environment sector.

The acquisition expands Serco’s capabilities in the Middle East region and is expected to generate employment opportunities in line with Serco’s commitment to bringing national visions to life.

Founded in 2018, Climatize is a regional leader in green building engineering and sustainability strategies. The consultancy brings a range of services to Serco, including net zero and green building consultancy, life cycle assessments, resource efficiency management, and integration of green technologies.

Phil Malem, CEO of Serco Middle East, stated: “Sustainability and leading with purpose is no longer simply a choice; it’s an imperative.

“With this acquisition, we will not only be able to bolster our advisory capabilities, but we will be able to help governments and organisations to accelerate their journey towards net zero, providing a greater suite of ‘end-to-end’ services that benefit both the business and the planet, impacting a better future.”

Engi Jaber, Managing Director of Climatize, said: “The acquisition will enable us to enhance our ability to contribute to more impactful and innovative solutions whilst expanding our footprint into new markets and sectors, ensuring that the team remains at the forefront of industry advancements.”

As Serco enters a transformative year in 2024, the acquisition of Climatize signifies a crucial step forward in the company’s commitment to sustainability, aligning with the global focus on environmental issues following COP28.
