Seiko Epson Corporation joins forces with Earth Hour 2024

Participate in ‘Biggest Hour for Earth’ on March 23, 2024

Earth Hour, the world’s largest grassroots environmental movement, has announced its first-ever international corporate partnership with Seiko Epson Corporation (Epson).

This collaboration comes at a crucial time when the world faces dual climate and nature emergencies, and the partnership aims to inspire millions across the globe to take energy-saving actions for the benefit of the planet.

2023 Earth Hour, it achieved an impressive milestone with more than 410,000 hours pledged on its Hour Bank, an online counter of planet-positive activities.

Building on this success, Earth Hour, scheduled for March 23, 2024, at 8:30pm local time, aims to create the ‘Biggest Hour for Earth’ again.

On March 23, 2024, participants are encouraged to dedicate one hour to planet-friendly activities, from turning off lights to embracing sustainable diets.

This is a rallying cry for the unprecedented collective action needed to address pressing environmental challenges.

Global environmental movement

Earth Hour is WWF’s flagship global environmental movement.

Yves Calmette, Senior Director of Brand and Network Communications for Earth Hour, highlighted the collaborative approach of the partnership with Epson, saying: “Our partnership with Epson exemplifies a collaborative approach when it comes to this year’s Earth Hour. Together, we can unleash the power of collective action – but we need everyone’s involvement to make it the Biggest Hour for Earth yet.”

Calmette emphasised Earth Hour as a moment to celebrate our shared home, the planet, in the face of global challenges.

“Earth Hour isn’t just about acknowledging the problem; it’s about celebrating the solutions. We want Earth Hour to be a beacon of hope so that we can build a brighter, more sustainable future for all.”

Yasunori Ogawa, Global President of Epson, expressed the company’s commitment to co-existing with nature and local communities.

He said: “Through this partnership, we hope to expand understanding and empathy for environmental activities and provide an opportunity for as many people as possible to take action.”

Epson and Earth Hour encourage individuals in the Middle East and across the rest of the globe to ‘Give an Hour for Earth’ by adopting energy-efficient practices during the 60 minutes of Earth Hour 2024 and beyond. This joint initiative aims to make a significant impact on the planet.

Epson has publicly announced its Environmental Vision 2050, committing to becoming carbon-negative and eliminating the use of non-renewable underground resources by 2050. The company is implementing initiatives such as increasing the efficiency of electricity use and transitioning to 100% renewable electricity at all Epson Group sites.

Earth Hour, initiated in 2007, has become a symbol of collective action and environmental consciousness. With participation from over 190 countries and territories, Earth Hour 2024 aims to unite people worldwide to celebrate inspiring actions and focus on our pressing environmental challenges.
