His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, has endorsed the recommendations of the Consultative Committee for enhancing the upcoming edition of the Fujairah International Monodrama Festival. The session was attended by experts from the International Theatre Institute (ITI) UNESCO, alongside theatre practitioners and scholars from diverse Arab nations.
The Festival Development Committee convened under the guidance of His Excellency Mohammed Saeed Al Dhanhani, Director of the Fujairah Emiri Diwan and President of the Festival. This committee emerged from the consultative session for the festival conducted in the Emirate of Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, on April 25-26, 2024. The event welcomed a prominent assembly of Arab theatre professionals, including Tobias Bianconi, Director General of the International Theatre Institute, and Zongyin Chen, the Institute’s Secretary.
The committee concluded with a set of recommendations, encompassing the introduction of a specialized festival form named the “Festival Form,” offering substantial financial prizes, conducting specialized workshops to skill individuals in monodrama, reinstating the Arab Monodrama Text Competition for Theatrical Composition, supporting and nurturing exceptional Arab and foreign monodrama productions showcased alongside the festival, collaborating with the International Theatre Institute to attract top global performances, and establishing a competition for students of Fujairah schools in partnership with the Emirates Foundation for School Education. This aims to encourage students to present monodramatic school plays during the festival.
