Al Habtoor City Hotel Collection’s green revolution

Following on from the success ofthe UAE’s Year of Sustainability in 2023, Al Habtoor City Hotel Collection is proud to announce the implementation of its new sustainability programme. The forward-thinking initiative is based around four key pillars — Energy, Water, Waste and Community Support — and is being rolled out across the three luxurious five-star properties within Al Habtoor City Hotel Collection: Al Habtoor Palace Dubai, V Hotel Dubai, Curio Collection by Hilton and Hilton Dubai Al Habtoor City.

Speaking on the roll out of the programme, a spokesperson for properties said; “We at Al Habtoor City Hotel Collection are committed to extend an extraordinary accommodation experience, while being mindful of the impact we do create on the planet and the surrounding community.”

Energy saving underscores the collection’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Double glazed windows and energy efficient lighting with motion sensors and thermostats with automated climate control systems automatically adjust to the most eco-friendly and ambient temperatures for guests and residents, reducing energy wastage.

Tesla brand e-charging stations have been installed in the basement parking area for guests who drive electric vehicles and complimentary shuttle buses allow guests to explore Dubai’s beloved landmarks including Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall, or visit the pristine beaches of sister properties Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeirah and Habtoor Grand Resort, Autograph Collection while reducing guests’ carbon footprint.

At heart of the Al Habtoor City Hotel Collection sustainability programme is the investment in water-saving initiatives. The properties’ towel/linen reuse scheme enables each person who stays with Al Habtoor City Hotel Collection to reduce their personal carbon footprint during their stay. Toilets are fitted with dual-flushing systems and water taps are equipped with flow-control aerators and sensors to reduce the volume of water in use. Operational throughout more than 1,600 rooms and suites, residences, public washrooms and restaurants, this cutting-edge technology is not  a feat only in water management, but the forward-thinking approach has translated into a substantial energy saving for the properties, with an average of 1,000 litres of water saved per day.

The hotels also possess a rainwater collection tank that is used throughout the properties’ gardens with the in-house tertiary water treatment system being utilised for landscape irrigation.

Initiatives have also been put in place to encourage segregation of waste by providing colour-coded waste bins, as well as the minimisation of single-use plastic products in day-to-day operations. The properties are committed to achieving full plastic-free operations and Green Globe Certification in the future. Guests also have the choice to opt out of using single-use plastic water bottles and all washrooms are equipped with bulk dispensers for liquid toilet amenities.

The final sustainability pillar of Al Habtoor City Hotel Collection is supporting the local community and producers. Where possible, the properties use locally sourced materials and produce including raw food ingredients used in the exquisite food and beverage offerings. The collection has also pledged to reduce its food waste output by donating excess food items to local charities. The team also engages in community outreach campaigns with the likes of Clean UAE.

Augmented by comprehensive waste management and segregation practices, these daily initiatives have collectively played a pivotal role in reinforcing the hotel’s status as a prominent leader in eco-conscious hospitality.

This luxury hotel trilogy’s sustainability programme represents a forward-looking commitment to inspire and educate staff and guests, instilling a profound sense of responsibility and awareness about sustainable practices. As 2024 progresses, Al Habtoor City Hotel Collection will continue its dedication to shaping a greener, more sustainable future for the hospitality industry and beyond.
