A Chery Tiggo 8 team competed in the gruelling 2024 Taklimakan Rally, which took place in the arid landscapes of Kashgar, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, in China.
Beginning on May 20, the 13-day renowned cross-country rally featured competing teams from across the globe.
Competing in the mass-production vehicle category, the Chery Tiggo 8 team used standard production versions of engines, transmissions, and body structures, only adding a roll cage, extra fuel tanks, and off-road tyres.
The Chery Tiggo 8 team clinched the rally’s 2024 petrol mass production title, distinguishing the Tiggo 8 as the sole contender in the urban compact SUV category. The team previously won the same category in 2023 and 2019.
This year, led by champion driver Tao Pengfei, the team sought to defend their title in a rigorous event covering approximately 4,400km, including 2,163km of special stages.
The Taklimakan Rally, often dubbed the ‘Asian Dakar,’ is Asia’s premier cross-country rally and China’s largest offroad competition.
Spanning over 20 years, this year’s edition featured 50 teams from around the globe, including participants from the United States, France, and the United Kingdom.
The rally’s route traversed some of China’s most challenging landscapes, from scorching deserts to treacherous dunes, testing the vehicles’ endurance and the drivers’ skill.
The Tiggo 8 boasts a C-NCAP five-star safety design and has accumulated an impressive 3.11 million kilometres in reliable driving mileage. This solid foundation underscores its capability to navigate the Taklimakan Rally’s demanding conditions.
